Introduction

This is possibly THE most original Beetle on the market - only 1 previous owner (from whom I bought the car), garage stored for 53 years, all history kept on file, no sign of rust and it's never been welded!

I've owned the beetle for 2 years, having bought it from the original owner who purchased it brand new in 1970! He kept it in his garage, which explains the condition. I'm selling as I've bought a VW T2 Campervan for my next project.

EXTERIOR VIDEO

Exterior

Every panel is original and no welding has been done ANYWHERE, nor is any needed. The car still wears much of its original paint, and is very solid underneath - the underside has been treated with Bilt Hamber rust protection.

Wheels and Tyres

I believe these are the original wheels, painted in silver.

The tyres all have great tread.

Bodywork

There has been NO WELDING done or needed, it was treated from the outset and this has continued under my stewardship. I wire brushed the underneath, treated it with Hammerite, followed by 2 coats of Bilt Hamber Dynax rust prevention into every nook and cranny.

The only area of rust is on the nearside rear wing about the size of a 50p piece.

Paint

The paintwork is still original, although from time to time the original owner sprayed a rattle can here and there so, although it's red all over, the paint is not a uniform shade - I'm confident there has never been any filler applied though.

I had considered a respray but then a large part of the originality would be lost and in a way, its patina is part of the character.

Glass and Trim

All original glass and trim is present as far as I can tell, with no chips or cracks.

Interior

Inside the car is as original as the outside, from the seats, headlining, carpets and even the original Blaupunkt radio with handbook and receipt!

There are a couple of minor tears to the vinyl on the top of the rear seat but not in the eye line.

Seats and Carpets

All totally original interior, nothing has been replaced other than the front seat belts, although I still have the originals too.

Dashboard

Dashboard is the same as when it came out of the factory. There's one area of scratching (5mm) in the centre, and a bit of wear on the gear gate pattern below that.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and gear stick are original and in great condition.

Mechanics

I have all the original paperwork with the car, from the original sales invoice from 1970, original service stamps and repair bills, to more recent receipts, include £800 to have the original gearbox reconditioned professionally.

Engine and Gearbox

This is the original 1500cc air-cooled engine - the first owner regularly had it serviced at a garage and I've regularly serviced it myself since. Last year I ran a compression test on the engine and each cylinder returned 125 p.s.i. and it runs extremely well.

The original gearbox was professionally reconditioned 2 years ago - receipts are on file.

Suspension and Brakes

I've fitted new rear brake drums, pads, and cylinders. The disc brakes on the front were standard for this year and model.

The Drive

Starts on the button, first time, every time. It's an absolute pleasure to drive as it has the Beetle 'whistle'. The gear shift is nice and tight as I replaced all of the bushings and coupler.

Electrics and Other

I've fitted a Sony CD changer and headunit from the 1990s (under the dash so out of sight) but the original Blaupunkt radio is still fitted in the dash (original manual and receipt included).

I have a huge bundle of paperwork for it - including the original payment invoice from its original dealer sale in Bromsgrove - as well as a thorough service history schedule all the way from 1970 to current times.

Very complete service history, including the very early VW dealership diagnostic test reports, service stamps, handbook etc.

A huge file of paperwork covering service items.

Original jack and spare wheel is included
