1997 Westfield SEiW

Introduction

A factory built Westfield 1.6 SEiW (wide body) - must be one of the best Westfield cars on the market with impressive performance and handling.

This is a turn key road car which was subject to a detailed refurbishment by the current owner in 2021.

It has been owned by the current owner who is a member of the Westfield Sports Car Club since 2020. The car is reluctantly being sold to finance a property purchase.

Beautiful Post Office Red original gel coat bodywork. - unmarked chassis which bears the majority of its factory applied powder coating.

Wheels and Tyres

15" refurbished alloy wheels with nearly new Toyo Proxies tyres.

The alloys are all unmarked and as new.

The spare is unused.

Bodywork

The chassis and bodywork are in show condition.

The chassis is undamaged and retains the majority of its factory applied powder coating.

The car comes with a desirable Westfield supplied lockable boot box which houses the hood frame, hood, full tonneau cover and tool set.

Paint

The body is finished in the original factory gel coat which is in show condition.

The car is kept under a cover in a warm garage.

The gel coat retains a beautiful deep shine and is a uniform colour all around.

There is one small blemish on the near side wing which is the size of a little finger nail.

Glass and Trim

The windscreen is in excellent condition.

The side screens are clear and undamaged and he hood and frame are brand new- the hood has never been fitted to the car.

The wiper arms and blades were replaced with genuine Westfield items when the car was refurbished.

The windscreen surround and side supports have been highly polished.

VIEW ALL

Interior

The well appointed and comfortable interior has been totally refurbished - this included a new complete carpet set, supplied by Westfield. Luke 4-point race harnesses, plus a 12v auxiliary socket has been fitted.

Seats and Carpets

The seats are original red and black items as fitted by the Westfield factory - they provide excellent support and are comfortable on a long run.

A new Westfield carpet set has been fitted which is black with red piping.

The interior panels have been recovered with new top quality vinyl when the car was refurbished.

Dashboard

The padded dashboard was recovered with the same high quality vinyl to match the interior side panels.

The dashboard has been fitted with all new VDO gauges including rev counter and speedo which have been professionally calibrated to the car by Mardigras Motorsport.

All new switch gear has been fitted and works correctly.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A new Mountney flat bottomed steering wheel is fitted along with a new leather gear stick gator with new chrome fixing ring.

The gear stick has a genuine Westfield alloy gear knob.

Mechanics

Mechanically superb with a proven 115BHP which gives superb handling and performance - easy and economical to maintain - sounds and drives great, plus a Q plate means less emission requirements and a more straightforward MoT.

Engine and Gearbox

The factory fitted Ford 1.6 CVH engine is fitted with a Kent CVH22 fast road camshaft which on professional inspection is in virtually as new condition.

A desirable and rare Ford Motorsport cam cover is fitted and has been vapour blasted to improve its appearance.

The cylinder head has been professionally reconditioned which included a light skim, new cam lifters, valves, valve guides and seals.

Twin DCOE Weber 40 carbs feed the engine which have both been fitted with a service kit and benefit from a new Weber throttle linkage and new ITG air filters.

A fuel regulator and Facet electric fuel pump are fitted.

A new Coolex alloy radiator, new coolant hoses, clips, water pump, cambelt, alternator, electronic distributor and plug leads have been fitted, plus a recent oil and filter change and new sump gasket have been carried out.

It has a very slick Ford Type 9 5-speed gearbox which has also benefited from a recent oil change.

Suspension and Brakes

The whole suspension has been refurbished. The car has the independent Ford Sierra rear suspension set up fitted by the factory. Fitted with new AVO fully adjustable shock absorbers and coilovers.

A new Westfield suspension bolt kit was fitted at the time of refurbishment.

The car benefits from disc brakes all round and it has uprated Ford Capri vented front disc brakes with new calipers. New brake pads all round. Suspension corner weight professionally set up.

The front hubs and suspension joints and steering boots were also replaced.

The Drive

This is a superb road car with impressive performance and handling. The stainless steel exhaust system with Weber DCOE carbs make a wonderful sound.

The car has never been raced or tracked and has had dry road use only.

Electrics and Other

The electrics are all in perfect working order and were subject to a detailed check when the car was refurbished.

All dashboard wiring was labelled.

New air horns were fitted and all wiring was checked and replaced where necessary.

A new battery has been recently fitted which is protected by an isolator switch for added security.

History and Paperwork

There is a comprehensive vehicle history with a huge file of receipts and MoTs from new, a factory build manual is also present and the car was featured in the Summer 2022 edition of Westfield World - the magazine of the Westfield Sports Car Club.

The car was given a comprehensive service when it was refurbished in 2021 and it has done approx. 1500 miles since. However, it has had a recent antifreeze change, oil and filter change with a new sump gasket fitted.

All MoT certificates are present from 1998 - it has a current clean MoT until July 2025.

There is a huge file of receipts along with drivers handbook and build manual.

Items included: softbits for Sevens gear stick surround storage. Original jack, tonneau cover, fire extinguisher, spare cylinder head and cam cover, a set of solid camshaft lifters, spare dash gauges, spare engine mounts.

There are ~11 miles shown on clock due to a speedo change. 8,133 was recorded in April 2023 and we work out the car has completed around ~20,000 in total.

Has the car been modified to run on E10 fuel?

The car runs fine on E10. Whilst in our ownership, we have run it mostly on E5 as it costs so little to fill up the tank. The cylinder head is E10 compatible and all rubber fuel hoses were changed for E5 compatability when the car was refurbished.
