Introduction

Open-top thrills with M-Power performance - pairing sharp handling with the legendary 3.2-litre straight-six for a true drivers' car experience.

The BMW Z4 M Roadster is a modern classic that perfectly combines the freedom of open-top motoring with the raw excitement of BMW’s M division. At its heart lies the legendary engine from the E46 M3, delivering ~338 BHP and a rapid 0-60 MPH time of ~4.9 seconds from factory.

This high-revving powerhouse, paired with a slick six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, ensures an engaging and visceral driving experience. The Z4 M Roadster stands out on the road with its muscular styling, wide stance, and purposeful details that reflect its performance pedigree. Inside, the driver-focused cockpit, snug seating, and precise controls emphasise its sporting character.

Agile, responsive, and thrilling on twisty roads, yet refined enough for longer journeys, the Z4 M remains one of the most exciting and desirable roadsters of its era, embodying the spirit of BMW’s "Ultimate Driving Machine".

This particular example comes fresh-to-market from just over four and a half years with our vendor, it has two sets of keys, the original driver BMW "M" folio and an upgraded exhaust system - a fantastic example of the Z4 M, all set for its next owner.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Tony the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

With its long bonnet, muscular stance, and sharp lines, the Z4 M exudes pure athleticism, perfectly balancing elegance and performance in an unmistakably BMW silhouette.

Wheels and Tyres

The 18” 5-spoke alloy wheels, finished in gloss black with BMW centre caps, appear in good condition overall but do show age-related marks and chips out of the edges, particularly on the front passenger side. These were previously refurbished in December 2014.

The front of the BMW is fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres with date codes from 2015 and a spec of 225/40. To the rear, the car is again on Goodyear's, date coded from 2015 and showing 255/35.

The BMW has some notes on the current MOT, with observations on both sets of tyres showing wear, which should be a consideration.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Z4 and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your own assessment of their condition.

Bodywork

Panels align well and we could see no visible distortion to these areas. Shut lines and panel gaps look good and both doors, bonnet and boot opened and closed well, in line with our expectations.

There were signs of scuffing to the base of the front splitter and the underside, but naturally only due to its lower road stance.

Being picky, there was a slight ding to the front passenger side quarter panel.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The blue paint finish looks in lovely shape with an even cover across the exterior panels.

We noted a few slight scratches to the exterior, on the front quarter, passenger and driver door and some stone chips across the car. With a good polish over, these marks would likely show much better.

The rear bumper appears to have been resprayed as this showed with signs of 'orange peel' to the finish.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windscreen and side windows displayed well. Front and rear lights all appear in excellent condition, just a few signs of fading to the front glass and minor condensation to the rear.

Badges and emblems are present, correct and looked smart. Carbon fibre effect has been used to wrap the side mirrors and grilles.

We didn't note any issues on the seals on the exterior and these areas showed to be in-line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The roof showed well, just a minor mark on the passenger side rear edge. To the interior, door cards showed well too, with only a few minor marks on the trim.

The headlining of the cabin looked good, just a couple of marks inside.

We noticed the third brake light does have a slight crack in it.

We've taken you around the car in greater detail in our exterior review video, please take the time to look over the video and see how the glass and trim look from different perspectives.

Interior

Inside the cabin you’re met with a driver-focused cockpit that perfectly balances luxury and performance; built to make every journey feel special.

Seats and Carpets

The heated seats are finished in black and blue leather. We noted very few issues, although the edge of the drivers bolster had some minor wear - but just to be expected and nothing major. The passenger seat shows little concern and displayed really nicely.

Looking over the carpet sections, the mats showed to be in excellent condition and looking underneath these, the main floor sections showed without issue too.

Checking over the boot, this section showed in great condition, clean and tidy with no problems.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

Dashboard

The black dash across the centre console appears in great shape overall. Black dials with orange needles looked excellent and were all functioning as expected.

The odometer showed with ~58,504 miles at the time of our visit.

The BMW is equipped with a iDrive system in the middle of the dash, which retracts when not in use.

The dials, switches, and controls all appear to be in lovely overall condition, with surfaces free from fogging or scratching.

We noted no issues with the rev counter, digital displays, speedometer, fuel gauge and oil temp and these were all functioning without concern when starting up the car.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel looks in great condition, just notes of use to the rim as you'd expect.

The original black leather covered gear stick displayed a little wear with a few marks to the top - the surround looked in smart shape.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and check over the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

Under the bonnet sits the legendary 3.2L straight-six, delivering ~338 BHP and a 0–60 sprint in just ~4.9 seconds from factory.

Engine and Gearbox

The BMW performed without concern when running and out on the road and felt great during the drive. Looking over the engine bay, the display was very good and showed nicely - clean, tidy and well presented.

The Z4 had works carried out on the sump gasket which was replaced, with engine oil servicing and filter changes in January 2021 costing over ~£500.

The 6-speed manual gearbox worked through its paces without issue. We took the car on a drive around some local roads with the owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about.

Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting up and more detail in the engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or other issues from the suspension when we were on the road, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling.

Looking at the underside of the car during our visit, noted no major issues.

The brakes felt to have no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey, and brought the car to a stop without a problem and with the kind of stopping power you'd expect.

The brake callipers had refurbishments completed and were hand painted yellow in 2022 - EBC pads were fitted in December 2014.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

The Drive

Behind the wheel, the Z4 M delivers an exhilarating driving experience that’s every bit as engaging as its looks suggest. Powered by the straight-six from the E46 M3, it thrives on being pushed, rewarding the driver with thrilling acceleration and a spine-tingling soundtrack.

The precise steering, stiff chassis, and sport-tuned suspension make every corner an event, while the open-top setup heightens the sense of connection to the road.

Balanced, powerful, and raw in all the right ways, the BMW M Roadster is built to excite.

Electrics and Other

During our time with the vehicle we noted that all switches and dials appear undamaged and are in great condition.

The exhaust system has been updated during the current ownership, switching to a more subtle setup but able to provide a lovely engine growl when desired.

Heated seats and air-con is also fitted to the car, welcome features in cooler and warmer journeys out.

The BMW is equipped with a iDrive system. Tony, the current owner, lets us know that the features all work, although the maps have not been updated, due to the update CD being stuck in the disc drive under the passenger seat.

The drivers side window has an issue where it doesn't sit back into position correctly, Tony feels that with the door panel taken off and a little time spent reseating the runners, this could be easily remedied.

History and Paperwork

The Z4 comes to market from just over four and a half years with Tony - it has upgraded exhaust silencers and under ~6,000 miles travelled in the last ~5 years.

Complete with two sets of keys and its original BMW "M" drivers folio, the Z4 is a real drivers' car capable of some impressive performance. Prior works have included, an air-con re-gas, new air-con conditioner fitment, sump gasket replacement and engine oil servicing and filter changes all in 2021, with the total cost of over ~£1,000.

Other works in 2021 included a new custom rear section to accommodate larger silencers and re-use of the tailpipes which cost ~£500. The current owner Tony, told us more about the exhaust upgrade, "I had two silencer boxes fitted to the exhaust system as I felt it was a little too noisy with a straight through exhaust system".

Gearbox servicing was completed in November 2014 along with replacement spark plugs and coolant change at a cost of ~£465. The ABS pump was removed and repaired in July 2020 and a new brake calliper fitted, works here were over ~£680.

We cover the history of the BMW in our paperwork gallery. Take a look over the previous servicing records and MOT certificates to see more behind the Z4 M.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.
