Introduction

Classic Porsche charm with all-wheel drive grip, a punchy flat-six and most importantly - ready to go for all seasons ahead.

The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (996) represents a pivotal chapter in the 911’s storied evolution. As the first generation to feature a water-cooled flat-six engine, it marked a technological shift that enhanced reliability, refinement, and performance. Its sleeker, more modern body design brought improved aerodynamics, while the all-wheel-drive system ensured exceptional grip and control, especially in challenging conditions. With ~300BHP on tap, a precise six-speed manual, and Porsche’s renowned handling dynamics, the Carrera 4 offered the perfect balance between everyday drivability and pure sports car thrills delivering a 0-60 time in ~5.5 seconds. Whether carving through winding roads or cruising across the country, the 996 delivers a driving experience that stays true to Porsche’s performance legacy, all while introducing a new level of comfort and practicality.

Coming to market from a ~4 year ownership, the cars service history includes an engine rebuild and IMS bearing replacement in 2019 by Porsche specialists, Hartech, was over ~£9,000. Minor servicing and a brake fluid change was actioned by Porsche Cambridge in February 2025 and major servicing was carried out in February 2024, it comes with a current MOT valid until 20.02.2026. It is presented in "Ocean Blue" over "Savannah" draped leather, and the car comes with a matching hard-top too.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting David the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

Bold, sleek, and unmistakably Porsche - the 996 Carrera 4 stands out with timeless curves and modern edge.

Wheels and Tyres

The Porsche is fitted with 18" SportClassic 2-piece wheels in a dark grey finish. Overall the condition of the wheels is reasonable, but when you get close to these, there are several surface issues in terms of curb marks and areas of corrosion that would look much better with attention and restoration.

The wheels are fitted with a full set of Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tyres. At the front, these show with a spec of 225/40 and date codes from 2016. To the rear, a spec of 265/35 and date codes from 2022. All tyres show in good visual condition. For a more detailed view of the 996's exterior and a closer inspection of the wheels and tyres, please refer to the photos and videos.

Bodywork

The car stands level and the shut lines look good. Both doors and the boot open and close well, but the rear engine lid would benefit from its struts being replaced as this needed to be held up when we visited the car. We noted a crease in the bonnet when visiting the 996, and there were several parking dings noted on the driver and passenger doors. Looking on the underside of the car, there were a few scuff marks where the Porsche sits lower on the road.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Looking over the 996, the car is in respectable condition for the age finished in "Ocean Blue" (L3AZ). Overall, the car would benefit from restorative work and attention to the marked areas noted below. Standing back from the car, the front bumper finish had a split and a scratch to the paintwork, and the colour showed with a slightly different match which was notable in some light. Stone chips were also observed across the front. We noted a few scratches on the drivers door, wing mirrors and marks on the bonnet edge. There were signs of blistering to the front passenger side quarter panel and sections where the paint was bubbling above the driver and passenger side roof trim edge.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork and paint for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please, take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

Overall the glass around the Porsche showed with no major cause for concern. The top-tinted windscreen and side windows all show well, with no significant scratching or marks. The seals look good around the outside and in line with the rest of the condition of the car. The interior door cards showed wear and marks in some areas. Rear lights showed well but there was a chip in the plastic trim on the front passenger side headlight.

The soft-top roof had a small hole in it and the inside of this section showed with marks on it. The optional hard top had scuffs and scratches observed to it and signs of blistering to the edges.

Interior

Inside the 996 you’ll find classic Porsche simplicity, supportive leather seats, and a driver-focused layout built for pure enjoyment.

Seats and Carpets

Finished in "Savannah" leather, the electric, 8-way, memory function seats provide a contrast to the blue exterior and optioned with draped leather front and back. There were signs of creasing and cracking to the leather, wear to the drivers side bolster and marks to the backs of the seats, although these observations were inline with our expectations from seats of this age.

Carpets showed in a reasonable state through the interior with no major concerns, topped with black Porsche mats. The carpets overall would benefit from a good clean to bring back the quality. In the front boot, the grey carpeted area showed no concerns although again, a clean through would be beneficial. Being picky, the cabin area would really benefit from a clean up and restorative works to bring it back to a great standard, although it is perfectly functional.

Dashboard

The leather covered dashboard looks to be free from any splits and cracks and showed well on our visit.

The clocks and dials showed nicely with ~96,127 miles shown at the time of our visit. The display on these sections showed a lovely level of presentation and are all functional showing clearly with no obvious scratching to the facings. The car is optioned with a body coloured centre console section which adds a smart touch to the cabin area.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A classic Porsche 3-spoke steering wheel finished in leather, sits at the hands of the driver and is good condition.

The gear selector with aluminium inlay shows the same level of standard, but there were a few notes of age-related marks and areas of wear.

The handbrake trim showed the same condition and is also fitted with the optional inlay. There were marks and notes of wear to the finish here.

Mechanics

The 996 Carrera 4’s 3.4L flat-six delivers signature Porsche power with all-wheel drive confidence.

Engine and Gearbox

Starting up from cold, we noted no concerns here. The car idled smoothly and was easily capable of taking the driver up to speed in no time at all. The engine was fully rebuilt in 2019 by Hartech, with ~£9,000 parts and labour spent. We noted no issues with oil leaks looking under the car on our visit.

We took the car out around some local roads with the current owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. On the drive, we ran through the motions and got an overview from David's perspective on how the car performs. Take a look over the video for yourselves to hear the Porsche start up from cold and take in the lovely sounds of the engine.

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no significant knocks, bangs or issues from the suspension when we were on the road in the car, and gave us no concerns in its performance or handling.

With drilled discs on each side, these felt great and had no pull or vibrations that stood out to us when on the journey and brought the car easily to a stop. Overall the car performed as to be expected with no observed problems.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

The Drive

The Carrera delivers a confident, all-weather driving experience with classic Porsche poise. Its all-wheel drive system adds sure-footed grip, while the rear-mounted flat-six engine provides smooth, responsive power.

David, the current owner, tells us more about his experience with the car, "Of all the cars i've had, this one is amazing, even on motorway there's barely any wind noise. It runs straight and true and the all-wheel drive gives a great sense of security". Balanced, agile, and unmistakably 911, it’s a car that feels at home on twisting B-roads or cruising the motorway.

Electrics and Other

During our time with the car we noticed no electrical faults, David told us everything works as far as he is aware. All dashboard lights turned off when out on the road as expected, and all dials and gauges were functioning without issue. The typical sign of sticky buttons was noted looking over the dials and button knobs, in keeping with our expectations as this is a fairly common occurrence.

Additional features fitted on the 996 include aluminium inlays to the gear knob and handbrake, Porsche CD / stereo, 8-way electric seats, top-tinted windscreen, SportClassic 2-piece wheels, leather dashboard and door panels, folding soft top and centre console painted in body colour.

For the colder months, the Porsche has an optional hard top. A spare emergency wheel is located in the front boot.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~4 year ownershipn, this car benefits from a Hartech rebuilt engine and upgraded IMS bearing, plus 14 Porsche service stamps and 2025 servicing, all ready for the summer season.

Most recently, minor servicing was actioned in February 2025 at Porsche Cambridge along with a brake fluid change, it comes with a current MOT valid until 20.02.2026.
