Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Editor and Photographer

The Impreza WRX STi is a capable, practical and entertaining performance car with a legendary motorsport pedigree.

Highly regarded by enthusiasts for its rallying pedigree and driving experience, the Subaru Impreza WRX STi first burst into the scene in January 1994 as a homologation model under FIA regulations. Representing the highest spec of the 2nd generation Impreza models, the WRX STi Type UK models are considered by many to be the most desirable version.

Stiffer than the original release, the GDB-F version was also fitted with the more robust 6-speed gearbox, revised suspension, wider wheels and received plusher interior refinements, all of which helped retain the Impreza's raw essence. For two years (2004 and 2005), the WRX STi took the top 3 podiums in Group N World Rally Championship, while it made its mark in autocross, drifting, and road racing, cementing its status as one of the greatest competition cars of all time.

Still powered by the legendary EJ207 2.0-litre boxer engines, now with Variable Valve Timing, this 2005 WRX STi Type UK comes to market after~3 years with our vendor, it is finished in black with a black/blue interior.

The Impreza has seen a host of professionally installed modifications with dyno printouts to indicate a noticeable hike in power. It comes with a folder of invoices since it was new, including the original bill of sale and a total of ~£38K’s worth of spending, including ~£10K in the last 3 years. It has had a new clutch and has not covered many miles since its last service.

Coming with its owner's wallet, 2 keys and has an MOT to September 2026, this is one opportunity not to be missed.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting John the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

Smartly presented in black, the car has benefited from the care of each of its owners.

Wheels and Tyres

The 18” 7-spoke Speedline alloys, finished in gold, display positively with minor wear. The nearside centre cap is loose and is missing in some of the photos, but it will be included.

The car is fitted with Uniroyal Rainsport 5 tyres with a spec of 225/40 to the front and rear - these are date-coded from 2020. The nearside rear tyre has a little wear on the sidewall. All show legal tread.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Subaru and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your own assessment of their condition.

Bodywork

The exterior presents positively, and the body shows no discernible corrosion or damage, aside from a couple of very minor dings on the roof. The panels are flush to the body, and the shut lines are all consistent. All doors open and close with ease.

The underside of the car is solid, with just signs of age noted on the front subframe and jacking points.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The paint has even coverage and consistency across the body and shows a decent lustre. There are mild swirl marks and a few minor surface marks, but nothing that looks to have penetrated beyond the top coat. The doors have a light peppering of road rash, again, nothing that has penetrated deeper than the undercoat. The nearside rear door well has a few scratches.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in good shape. The windscreen has a little lamination damage on the bottom left corner. An inside tint film has been applied to the car, some of which is now showing signs of age. The headlamps and lights are decent, although the front lenses are slightly foggy, and we noted condensation on the inside of the nearside tail-light cluster.

The trim appears to be correct for the model; it’s all well-mounted and flush to the car. The side window and some of the grille section trim has faded with age, and the front splitter is damaged.

Interior

Clean and carefully looked after, the interior betrays the car's age.

Seats and Carpets

The seats have been cared for and show very little wear.

The carpets and mats are clean and all damp-free.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition, with no significant marks or damage noted on the facia or padding. The centre console shows minor scuffs, but the padding and trim, dials and switches are in positive condition.

The door cards and headlining are in good condition, and the boot appears to have seen sympathetic use.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and gear lever are in good order and are above the expectations of a car of this age.

Mechanics

With thousands of pounds of mechanical expenditure, the engine performs exactly how you would expect it to.

Engine and Gearbox

The cold start process was straightforward, with no hesitation from the engine. It sounds even with no unwanted noises heard. The dashboard warning lights all remained off, and the exhaust remained fume-free after the initial condensation had dissipated. The engine idles smoothly when cold and warm - the engine turbo timer is fully operational.

The tuned engine is clean, showing evidence of recent maintenance. There have been various upgrades and modifications, all of which appear to have been carried out by specialists over the years. All the ancillaries and hoses are in good shape. There were no fluid leaks during our visit.

The gearbox worked perfectly, with slick changes and no looseness. The clutch was replaced in early 2025 and operates with no reported faults.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension is taut with a firm but controlled ride. The car managed the road confidently, and we didn’t hear any untoward noises or thuds from the wheels when accelerating, braking or cornering.

The braking is highly effective - a K-Sport big brake kit was fitted in 2023 and stops the car without drama.

The Drive

The Impreza’s flexible 2.0-litre boxer engine was designed to accommodate performance enhancements, and is proven to accept significant power hikes. Serving as the ultimate track day car with plenty of practicality and usability; the Impreza combines typical ease of driving with devastating performance.

John took us for a drive to demonstrate the car's talent, showing its ease of use along the urban roads of Surrey with a handful of long, clear straights to show off its performance potential. It pulls exceptionally well, but also provides a smooth mid-range delivery. The steering was demonstrated to be in good order, free of wobbles or play, allowing John complete control at all speeds.

The car tracks smoothly on the roads, free of mechanical noises from the wheels. The grip and traction from the all-wheel-drive system never ceases to amaze us, particularly when you momentarily forget that within the sensible Japanese interior, you’re sitting in a fully-fledged rally tool.

John has been pleased with the car's reliability over the three years of his ownership, having experienced no issues regarding the engine temperature and oil pressure. The Subaru has an impressive record of maintenance, suggesting that no reactive repairs have been carried out.

Electrics and Other

We didn't test all electrics during our visit but John told us everything was working as far as he was aware.

A Tein damping controller is installed in the glovebox. An operational HKS turbo timer is fitted. Additional engine upgrades can be viewed in the paperwork section.

A Kenwood Navigation/multimedia unit has been installed, and an unconnected base bin is also included.

History and Paperwork

It comes with an impressive history of invoices, including £10K worth of spending since 2023.

First registered in March 2005 by Subaru main dealer J Days of Chelmsford, it comes with a folder of invoices back to 2006, including its original sales invoice. The most recent work includes a new clutch in early 2025, a service, a full belt change, a brake upgrade and a new turbo in 2023, which adds up to over £10,000. John has also renewed the brake pads.

Older invoices include a new cam belt and water pump at ~61,000 miles, and paperwork showing 15 oil changes from specialists and main dealers. Other notable invoices include a £10,000 invoice from Roger Clark Motorsports for engine upgrades in 2017 and a Tein Super Street damper kit in 2008. The invoices suggest a total amount of expenditure for the car comes in at around ~£38,000 since the car was new.

The car has its full owner's wallet, with a blank replacement service book, two keys, an MOT to September 2026 and was last serviced in August 2023.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check. This returned a Security Watch on the car, we have been in touch with HPI and the finance company that put this watch on who have confirmed the finance on the car has been settled and the security watch has now been removed, you can view the HPI certificate in the paperwork gallery below.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
