Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

Fewer than ~850 Lancia Flaminias were produced, making this a highly desirable and collectable piece of Italian history.

The Lancia Flaminia Convertible is a refined example of post-war Italian motoring, blending elegant design with advanced engineering. Introduced in 1959 as part of Lancia’s flagship Flaminia range, the successor to the Aurelia, the convertible was among the most exclusive variants, bodied by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan using their lightweight Superleggera construction technique.

Powered by a smooth V6 engine, initially 2.5 litres and later enlarged to 2.8 litres, the Flaminia offered up to 150bhp. It featured a rear-mounted transaxle with a four-speed manual gearbox, independent front suspension, and a De Dion rear axle; hallmarks of Lancia’s innovative engineering.

The Touring-bodied convertible stood out for its sleek lines, restrained chrome detailing, and well-appointed interior. With fewer than ~850 examples built, it’s a rare and highly desirable collectors' car. Today, the Flaminia Convertible is celebrated as a symbol of 1960s Italian style and sophistication, offering open-air touring with timeless elegance.

This fantastic 1962 example was imported by Mike (the owner) nine years ago and he's cared for the desirable Italian classic ever since.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Mike the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I was initially searching for another Lancia model and as soon as the Flaminia caught my eye, I knew that was the one.

Mike is a huge fan of anything that’s a little bit different from your average run-of-the-mill classic, which is why, as soon as he spotted this 1962 Lancia Flaminia, he knew it would be a welcome addition to his collection.

Imported from Italy in 2016, Mike is the first UK keeper of this highly collectable Lancia.

Fat forward nearly a decade and all collections have a time when they are being reduced or simply changed around, well Mike is no exception as he's reducing his collection, which is why the Lancia is being sold.

Mike is on hand to answer any of your questions in the comments, or receive your praise on such a beautiful car.

Exterior

With more Italian charm than you could even imagine, the Lancia has to be one of the prettiest cars from the '60s.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the original wheels, which have been painted in cream. These have chrome trims to the rims and stainless steel Lancia hub caps. One hub cap does have a scuff to the centre; the other three are in good condition.

The car is fitted with Michelin 165 R400 tyres, which have good tread remaining, but may be of some age.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Lancia and a closer look at the wheels and tyres to make your own assessment of their condition.

Bodywork

Walking around the car, the Lancia’s bodywork is in very good condition. There are a couple of small dings on the nearside wing, but other than that, dings and dents are minimal.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The Flaminia has been repainted by a previous keeper. Keeping in mind this was done over 10 years ago, the car still presents very well. There are a few age-related marks where the paint has chipped, but these could be touched in.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows appear to be in good condition with no excessive scratches. The quarter window seals have a small amount of age-related perishing.

The chrome work is generally in good condition.

The bumpers and door handles have a small amount of age-related tarnishing.

Fitted with a fabric roof, this is in good condition, as is the rear window and it lifts up and down with ease in a matter of seconds.

Interior

A charming, spacious interior is perfect for those wanting to take the Lancia touring.

Seats and Carpets

The seats were retrimmed several years ago and are in very good condition, with just a small amount of wear to be seen.

The door cards have been trimmed in the same material - they are in good condition, however, there is a stain on the passenger side door card.

These also match the tonneau cover, which is also in good condition.

The beige carpets are in good condition with minimal signs of wear.

A spare wheel is included inside the boot.

Dashboard

The black vinyl-topped dashboard is in good condition, and the fascia is finished in body colour and free from scratches.

Both instruments are working correctly, and the odometer shows a reading of ~13,263 kms.

We just noticed the missing knob for the cigar lighter.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original wood-rim steering wheel is in good order, with no real signs of age to the rim.

The gear knob is as you would expect for the age of the Lancia, nice and original.

Mechanics

A 2.5-litre V6 running with triple Weber carburettors is a fantastic sound to hear.

Engine and Gearbox

The V6 fires up nicely. With a couple of blips of the throttle, it clears the throats of the triple Weber carburettors nicely and comes to a smooth idle, with no issues reported by Mike.

The four-speed gearbox has a precise change, and the Lancia pulls well through the gears, with no untoward noises coming from the transmission.

It is also worth noting that in 2020, Mike had a new clutch fitted.

Suspension and Brakes

Out in the Lancia, the ride is firm enough to know it's a two-seater sports car without being too firm.

No knocks or bangs were present, and the car came to a stop in a straight line with a firm feel through the pedal.

The Drive

Driving the Lancia Flaminia Convertible is a refined and rewarding experience. The smooth V6 engine delivers effortless performance, ideal for relaxed cruising rather than outright speed. Thanks to a rear-mounted transaxle and sophisticated suspension, its balanced handling makes it feel composed and surefooted on the road.

Ride comfort is excellent, and the steering has a precise feel on the move. With the roof down, the cabin is elegant and airy, offering a sense of occasion with every drive.

Bringing classic Italian style with grand touring, the Flaminia is a fantastic choice.

Electrics and Other

All switchgear appears to function correctly and is in good condition for its age. However, there is one knob missing from one of the switches, but everything is said to be working correctly.

History and Paperwork

It's clear to see this Faminia has been well cared for over the years, not least the last decade with Mike as its custodian.

As is the usual case, imported cars come with little in the way of history, and no exception here for the Lancia . Fast forward to more recent years, Mike has maintained the car well - he has usually done this by himself or at his local specialist.

Judging by the car's condition and how well it runs and presents itself, we don’t think you will be disappointed with this 1962 Italian classic.

We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including verifying photo ID, the V5C, and an HPI check. This confirms the car has not been stolen, written off, or has any outstanding finance. Please note: This check does not include mileage verification.

We’ve summarised the car based on the seller’s information above. As always, we go to great lengths to photograph and film the car in hi-resolution detail so you can make your own informed assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So grab a cuppa, sit back, and enjoy reviewing everything in this listing.

Viewings are welcome for all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a time – we just need to speak with you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If you have any questions — no matter how small — please ask the seller in the comments section below before placing your bids, as bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win, just like in a traditional auction house.
