Having been privately owned for 13 years this 280 SL has really been part of the family for the current owner. Introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show, the R107 was touted as "a high performance sports car providing a great degree of travelling comfort", even after all this time we can see how this statement really still applies. I notice that on photo 57 of the exterior there appears to be some form of jagged split/gap along the sill under the drivers side door, along with some different texture that seems to indicate a repair of some sort. Can you give further details as to what lies beneath – particularly the gap, as it looks like it would allow water ingress.

Photo 57 appears to be a front end shot. You may mean photo 59 but as far as I can see you are referring to a reflection of the brick paving?
Hi, my mistake, I meant photo 57 of the mechanics shots. It shows the sill underneath the drivers door.
In discussions with my garage, I’ve always understood this to be part of the underfloor sealing. I’ve never experienced water ingress to the floor and as the report says, there is no evidence of any water damage at any time. Hope this helps.

I went through the the buyers faq’s and found that the viewing is down to the seller and prospective buyer. There is no need to contact Trade classics. I have messaged them anyway although I doubt they will message me before tomorrow. So I f you happy to go ahead I can come and view tomorrow around 4pm if I have the address of course.

Hello, has the SL had any welding done to it in your ownership please?
Soon after I bought the car, I noticed that had been water ingress into the back seats. After detailed examination at my local repairer, it was found that there must have been some rear-end repairs that had not been completed properly which required some welding to seal a joint. I also had the rear seat cushions repaired & recovered. After the recent MOT, some rust damage was observed offside near the foot pedals so that required some welding. Current road tax, according to Parkers, is £295. The car comes complete with hard top, wheeled stand for the hardtop, a cover for the hardtop & stand and a bag for the cover when the hardtop is fitted.
