Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigener

Sometimes described as the little brother to the Ferrari Testarossa, the 348 is without doubt, a special Ferrari.

Originally released in 1989 to replace the outgoing 328, the 348 took on design cues from the Testarossa. It was the last V8 model to be developed under the stewardship of Enzo Ferrari, launched to the public after his passing. Design revisions in 1993 were both stylistic and performance based; output was increased from ~289BHP to ~316BHP through an improved engine management and exhaust system. This example is the Spider, featuring a 2-inch wider track and customised body parts; it was the first convertible Ferrari model since the Daytona Spider.

You will be pleased to know this 1994 model comes with an excellent service history, just serviced this month, which has seen regular cambelt changes including the last one which was carried out in June last year, leaving it ready for the new custodian to enjoy. Coming to market from ~10 year ownership, it presents in beautiful condition in the ever popular choice of "Rosso Corsa" over "Creama" leather interior.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Paul has cherished this 1994 Ferrari 348 Spider for the past ~10 years - covering around ~1,000 miles each year.

After his ten-year relationship and extremely regimented service schedule, Paul has now decided it’s time for someone else to have the pleasure of owning this fantastic 1994 Ferrari 348 Spider. With just ~46,335 miles and a cambelt service approximately ~300 miles ago, this is the perfect time to take ownership of the 80s Ferrari icon.

Exterior

The ultimate 80s Pininfarina styling - long side-strakes, sloped nose and pop-up headlights, the perfect mix.

Wheels and Tyres

The original Speedline five-spoke wheels are in excellent condition, as are the prancing horse centre caps, and there are no marks or scuffs to mention.

Bridgestone Turanza on the front and Bridgestone Expedia to the rear connect the 348 with the tarmac. These are all in good condition with a good amount of tread remaining. Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

Looking around the Ferrari, it is in superb condition. The panels look to align nicely with an equal gap around the doors, bonnet and engine cover, and there are no dings or dents to point out. It's worth noting also, that when the car had a major engine out service in 2019, the chassis was also inspected, and powder coated and painted to ensure longevity.

The black roof is in excellent condition, which is easily attached and removed when necessary. The tonneau cover is present and is in matching cream leather to the interior. We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Arguably the only colour for a Ferrari, the "Rosso Corsa" red, is in excellent condition. The paintwork really is in superb condition, with minimal swirl marks and no noticeable chips or scuffs. Looking around the car, there have been a couple of parts repainted at some point, possibly to cover some stone chips picked up along the way.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all in good condition with no apparent scratches, and the seals also appear in good order.

There is a small piece of rubber trim missing from the passenger side fog light. Paul does have this, but it’s not been fitted because it needs to be glued on. The reason for not glueing it on is that there's a crack across the top of the fog light, and Paul didn’t like the idea of glueing it to remove it if he decided to replace the fog light.

The headlights and rear lights are in good condition with no splits or cracks.

Interior

Crema leather seats compliment the red exterior and create a superb, classic Ferrari colour combination.

Seats and Carpets

Inside, the Ferrari presents exceptionally well. There is a small amount of wear to the driver’s side upper and lower bolster, but we would say it is in keeping with the age of the vehicle.

The red carpets are in good condition; there are some marks that could be removed or reduced with a carpet clean. A set of Ferrari fitted mats are in place, and if those wear out, there’s also a spare set. Inside the front storage area is nice and clean. The tool kit is present, which is 95% complete. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition, and there are no splits or cracks to be seen. The instruments are working correctly, with the odometer showing a reading of ~46,335 miles now.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The three-spoke leather Momo steering wheel is in good condition and has minimal signs of use. The gear knob is polished metal and in good condition.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

~296BHP from the fantastic 3.4 litre V8 32 valve engine, which sounds like a perfectly tuned symphony.

Engine and Gearbox

Fitted with a 3.4 litre V8, mounted just a few inches behind you, the V8 is capable of launching the 348 Spider from 0-60mph in just 5.6 seconds. The engine fires up without hesitation and comes to a smooth idle from cold. An aftermarket stainless silencer has been fitted that enhances the V8 soundtrack but is not intrusive. Paul reports no issues with the car, and it pulls strongly through the gears. He did go to the trouble of having the engine removed to carry out some work, and at the same time, he had the rocker covers re-coated in red which ensureing the V8 presents well.

The gearbox has a smooth change through the gated shifter, with no issues to report. In 2008 there was a new clutch fitted at 27,469 miles.

Suspension and Brakes

On the road, no knocks or bangs are coming from any corner of the car, and as you would expect, the Ferrari handles like a dream. The discs look in good order and bring the car to a stop in a straight line.

The Drive

What a car to be in! As a driver or passenger, you can’t help but have a massive grin as you embark on a run out in the 348 Spider. It’s a fantastic car to drive, which offers excellent driver feedback; after all, it is a Ferrari!

Electrics and Other

Inside, the 348 Spiders switchgear is in good condition, and everything is reported to work as it should.

The usual issues you find with the “sticky buttons” are not present here. There is a small piece of trim around the ashtray which has broken; we are told this is still available, but really it could quite easily be glued. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

A beautifully presented, and excellent service record with annual service just completed and belts changed last year, this car has a modest mileage and comes in an ever popular colourway.

When looking to buy any supercar, there has to be excellent service history. This particular 348 ticks all the boxes; when asking, “has it been serviced regularly” the answer to this is, yes, yes indeed! There is a fantastic amount of history which shows several cambelt changes, and as mentioned earlier, the last one was carried out on 19.06.2022. Topping off the service history are the original handbooks. The car has just come back from its annual service and MOT and so is very much ready for a new owner to drive away and enjoy.

This is a fantastic opportunity to own a classic Italian supercar which has been well cared for. Serviced and ready to go, it’s time to become a Ferrari owner! Please note, the private registration plate will be removed before the end of the auction.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
