Introduction

Kulraj Singh Salh
COO

A low mileage example in desirable Rosso over cream, with all the important carbon fibre extras, coming to market from ~3.5 years ownership and just 2 former keepers.

When Enzo Ferrari founded Ferrari 1939 it was the birth of a legend. Created out of the Alfa Romeo racing division the company became the longest established and most succesful team in Formula One. That engineering heritage has underpinned the production of some of the finest road cars in the world. There can't be an enthusiast anywhere who isn't familiar with the magic of Ferrari. The team at the Maranello factory manage to combine elegance, sportiness and exclusivity like no other.

The Ferrari California made its debut in 2008 and revived the name used on the Ferrari GT in the late 50's and the 1960's 365 California. The Pininfarina styled car introduced a new model range and was the first Ferrari to have a V8 upfront and to use the 7 speed dual clutch transmission. In 2014 the Ferrari California T was introduced. This was a radical step change from the earlier model and introduced a twin turbocharged 3.9L V8 engine elevating power output from 483BHP to 552BHP while ingenious engineering virtually eliminated turbo lag. Centre of gravity was lowered with the engine being set 40mm lower in the chassis and 11% stiffer springs were installed together with a 10% quicker steering rack. In addition, the car was even more striking with every panel being restyled resulting in an even more elegant and purposeful appearance. The new T delivered a blistering 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 195MPH.

This car is a magnificent example of a California T. Having covered less than 7,000 miles since new, it comes to auction with a full main dealer service history. The lightweight, aluminium bodywork and the high spec, carbon trim gives a real sense of sporting luxury. Resplendent in glorious Rosso Fuoco this car does justice to its heritage, looking, sounding and driving as only a Ferrari can. This example has the all important carbon touches inside and out, iconic yellow dial and special order interior. Just back from Ferrari this week for a service, this car is ready for the new owner to drive away in from the get go.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kulraj after meeting Jack the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

Muscular beauty and aerodynamic elegance packaged in an incredibly strong, lightweight aluminium shell.

Wheels and Tyres

The stunning 20" wheels and titanium centre bolts are in excellent condition having been refurbished only a year ago. Both the rims and centre badging appear unmarked.

In December 2020 The front and rear Pirelli tyres were reported to have tread remaining of over 7mm and 6mm respectively . The car has completed less than 220 miles since.

Bodywork

The bodywork, made entirely from aluminium, offers great torsional rigidity. A critical feature in a convertible of this calibre.

The car stands straight and level, the shut lines appear straight and tight. The doors, bonnet and boot all open and close cleanly and precisely. The roof mechanism appears to work well and opens in an impressive 14 seconds.

Paint

This car comes in iconic Rosso Fuoco. The finish is consistent right across the car and shines to a deep lustre setting off the badging, trim and interior beautifully. While generally very good the car would likely benefit from professional detailing as it shows some signs of use with stone chips here and there.

Take a good look at the exterior photos and video to really appreciate the overall condition.

Glass and Trim

Glass on windows and mirrors is clear with no apparent damage and exterior trim is in very good condition.

The appearance is enhanced on this specification with Carbon Fibre side air splitter and front bumper inserts, and the iconic Ferrari shields on the wings.

Interior

Generous, opulent, handcrafted cabin, with the all important sporting carbon fibre touches.

Seats and Carpets

The special order "Extracampionario" internal trim and carpets look fantastic. The wraparound leather seats (option RSCH) are stitched in red with the iconic prancing horse embroidered in the headrest. They are complemented by Rosso seat belts and logo enhanced matching floor mats.

In general the condition is excellent, but there is a unfortunate scuff on the drivers side bolster, a nick to the rear of the seat, and the leather storage compartments are showing some signs of ageing. Check out the Internal photos and video.

Dashboard

The dashboard is every inch Ferrari. from the centrally placed yellow backed tachometer and touch sensitive turbo display to the multi media system with both touch screen and conventional controls. The sense of exclusivity and elegance is palpable, wrapped in Nero leather.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The high spec steering wheel with mounted carbon fibre F1 gear shift paddles presents in excellent condition.

The wheel feels taught and sporty and it looks utterly stunning, fitted with the now iconic "manettino" dial and gear change indicators.

Mechanics

Power, control and a hypnotic soundtrack, this is a thoroughbred and delivers without compromise, a true drivers car.

Engine and Gearbox

The introduction of the 3.9L, 553BHP, twin turbocharged engine on the California T was a radical departure from the previous model. In fact, the T is the first turbocharged Ferrari since the F40 in 1987. The engine bursts into life and quickly settles down to a steady idle. Mated through a twin clutch to the 7 speed automatic gearbox with fully automatic or paddle shift mode, 755NM of torque is delivered to the rear wheels.

Check out the "On The Road" video to see the cold start and the short test drive we experienced with Jack's son Paul. The car has come back from Ferrari just this week for a service, so you can rest assured that it is ready to drive from the get go.

Suspension and Brakes

The stunning yellow calipers (option CALY) of the Brembo Carbon Ceramic brakes can be seen though the Carbon Fibre Wheels. The paperwork shows the carbon fibre brake discs were reported as having only 5% wear in December 2020, only 220 miles ago!

This car benefits from the SCM3 damping system allowing the driver to make adjustments from the steering wheel as well as transaxle architecture to give perfect weight distribution. On the T the springs are 11% stiffer than on the previous California. This car comes optioned with the Fiorano (option FIO1/2) handling packages.

The Drive

Jack tells us this car drives exactly as you would expect a Ferrari to combining power, balance, certainty and poise. These cars seamlessly meld power and control in a way that gives the driver complete confidence.

Power is delivered evenly across the rev range and Turbo lag is pretty much a thing of the past through the use of the F1 flat plane crankshaft. low intertia turbo and optimised exhaust manifold design.

Electrics and Other

Dials, switches, turbo controls and audio are all laid out meticulously. Jack confirms all electrics work as they should. This California T benefits from a touch sensitive digital turbo display and a multi media system with both touch and conventional controls.

History and Paperwork

A desirable and well spec'd example of the California T, just 2 former keepers with full main dealer history, on top of a low mileage have to make this one of the best available.

Ferraris are what dreams are made of. They look incredible and the driving experience is visceral.
