Introduction
Darren Rungasamy
Raw British engineering: pure mechanical adrenaline applied to the road.
Introduced in January 1998, the Ginetta G27 Series 4 was a classic British open-top sports car that paired iconic 1960s retro styling with modern engineering upgrades. Building upon this heritage, award-winning GKD Sports Cars later developed an evolution of the attractive original. In 2005, GKD purchased the vehicle's engineering designs, chassis jigs, drawings, and body moulds directly from Ginetta Cars. Following the acquisition, GKD spent several months extensively re-engineering the platform before formally launching the updated model as the GKD Evolution later that year.
The combination of a Dunnell-tuned Ford Zetec engine and a Ford Type 9 gearbox is one of the most highly regarded setups for the Ginetta G27 S4. Dunnell Engines is a legendary British tuning firm, universally famous in the kit car and clubman racing scenes for transforming standard Ford crate engines into high-performance powerplants. For this build, Dunnell provided specialised rear-wheel-drive conversion components, including a shortened, low-line wet sump - crucial for ground clearance in a low sports car like the G27 - along with a tailored cooling system.
A Dunnell Zetec in a G27 can reliably produce anywhere from 160 bhp to over 200 bhp. In a vehicle weighing roughly 700 kg, this delivers an incredible power-to-weight ratio.
Completed in 2019 and fitted with an engine dating from 2023, this professionally assembled G27 S4 is finished in blue, and offered as a light project for an enthusiast to recommission. Powered by a 1.8-litre Dunnell-optioned fuel-injected Zetec 16v engine, the car comes with a collection of receipts dating back to 2019. An ideal track-day candidate that remains road-legal, it is supplied with a current V5C logbook. The next owner will need to arrange for the vehicle to be trailered away.
This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Luke, the owners son, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Thanks,
Colin.
Hello, this looks a super little car and I’m seriously interested. I’m trying to determine the spec of the engine build. Can you see if the engine has a number beginning with “RMP……” on the left side, please? Also, the ecu will have a serial number. This helps identify the tune state….Thank you in advance, Dan
Hello Dan I am struggling to find the engine code you are referring to. Instead I have found the original owners invoices and these have been uploaded to the paperwork section, I hope this helps.
Hi luke sorry to hear about your lose.
would you be willing for people to come view before the end of the auction.
Many thanks
Hi,
We can help arrange a viewing for you if you could send an email to [email protected] first, we just need to do some checks.
Thanks,
Colin.
Hi Luke, a few questions if you can help please. 1 – I see the dash top is missing, do you have it. 2 – I see there’s a dash in place that covers the original ginetta one, is the loom still there for the original s4 6 dials. 3 – does the Trade Classics front plate cover a number plate or any damage. 4 – I see there’s a stud on each side of the body next to the headrest which would be for a soft-top, is there one with the car. 5 – is it running the ford sierra t9 5 sp box and xr4i diff. Cheers buddy
Hello!
I have answered below best to our knowledge:
No 1, We have the topper for it.
No 2, We are unsure about the loom.
No 3, No body work damage on the car or round the plate area.
No 4, There is a soft roof for it.
No 5, We believe it’s the standard 2.0 litre Sierra gearbox variant with 7inch diff.
