Variable cam timing (VTEC) is what allows the S2000’s 2.0 litre engine to spin up to 9000rpm - creating one of the most exhilarating two-seater sports cars you will ever drive.

Offering all the ingredients of an exceptional sports car, the S2000 has a front-mounted engine, rear-wheel drive, and perfect 50:50 weight distribution with only 2 seats. It first introduced in 1999 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Honda and was produced for 10 years - during that time only 8,000 came to the UK. The car was given the chassis designation AP1 and featured a bulletproof 1,997cc inline four-cylinder DOHC-VTEC engine. The F-series engine in the S2000 held the crown for the highest specific output of a naturally aspirated engine for 10 years, only being dethroned with the launch of the Ferrari 458.

This example has been with the current owner for ~14 months, and comes to market with ~60,500 miles recorded. Finished in a popular colourway of "Silverstone Metallic" with red leather interior, it has just 5 former keepers recorded and was serviced last year ~500 miles ago.

Meet the owner

I've always fancied getting the high-revving Honda S2000 - this one is great fun.

George purchased this S2000 last April, he has enjoyed 14 months of ownership and trips around the local countryside. He's had the car serviced early in to his ownership, and has covered ~500 miles since then. This lack of use is prompting the sale.

Exterior

The car's sleek and more modern looks really made it stand out from any other roadster at the time.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels are the original 16" 5-spoke alloys, and all look great on this example. Black rubber centre caps are fitted all around.

Fitted with Bridgestone Potenza dated 2013 on the rear and Contential SportContact 2 on the front also dated 2013, these appear in great condition, but are of course older items. Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

The bodywork appears in great condition on this Honda S2000, panel fit looks good and all moving panels opening and closing as they should. When looking over the car in detail there are a couple of areas to point out; we found an area of corrosion around the bottom of the offside rear wheel arch, and the front offside wing has some small areas coming through under the paint.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The car is finished in "Silverstone Metallic", a popular and iconic colour choice for the S2000. George reports the car has had some previous paintwork in the past, and the finish of the paint is to a high standard with even coverage and colour across each panel. When getting very close to the paint we noticed some very minor stone chips to the front bumper, some very minor scratches around the car that have come with age.

Again, we have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this S2000 example looks great and in line with the low mileage and ownership, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

Interior

Performance-focused seating position, the controls all placed with ergonomics in mind and the red colourway giving it that sporty touch.

Seats and Carpets

Fitted with red leather seats and carpets throughout, the interior really shows care invested by the previous owners. The seats look in good used condition inside the cabin, with the driver's bolster showing wear that the new owner may want to rectify.

The carpets reflect the condition of the rest of the car; great and clean throughout.

Dashboard

Fitted with the large digital display, we love the look of the rev gauge which encourages you to take the car up in to the V-Tec range.

The dashboard in this Honda has no signs of any major damage or scuffs. With no warning lights displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~60,457 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Equipped with the original leather Honda steering wheel, fitted with an SRS airbag, these have a lovely feel to them when out on the road.

The original steering wheel presents in great condition in line with the mileage of this car, the alloy gearstick looks good too, with what looks to be an updated gear-knob installed.

Mechanics

Winning International Engine of the Year for 4 consecutive years - this 2.0L V-Tec engine is rather special.

Engine and Gearbox

With a power output of ~124BHP per litre, this 2.0L VTEC engine was the highest per litre output of any naturally aspirated, mass production engine at the time of release. ~238BHP is delivered to the rear wheels through a 6-speed, close-ratio gearbox, taking the car to a top speed of 150MPH and 0-60 in around 6 seconds.

George reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the S2000, and the smart engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension setup is double wishbone all around and George reports suspension and brakes work faultlessly, mentioning a firm and sporty ride with stopping on-demand performance.

The Drive

Reported to be a hugely rewarding driver's car the S2000 has always been a firm favourite among petrolheads. Driving and being a passenger in the S2000 is always a memorable experience thanks to the finely engineered drive train combination of this well-regarded sports car.

Electrics and Other

The car features a push-to-start ignition, air conditioning, digital display and an electronic soft top hood.

George reports all the switches, lights and buttons work as they should on this example.

History and Paperwork

With 5 former keepers and ~60,500 miles recorded, this S2000 comes with a solid history file to chart its life too. Most recently serviced in ~500 miles ago, it is very much ready to be enjoyed.

Good Evening
Yes there is a very small ding approx 3/4″ high 1.5″ long on the actual wheel arch this is confined to the actual rim of the arch not into the main wing area
