Introduction

Matt Nolan
Professional Automotive Photographer

Jaguar's grand tourer offers a powerful and comfortable drive, the series 3 further improved the model with a silky smooth V12.

The Jaguar E-Type Series 3 2+2 coupe is considered more of a tourer than a sports car and offers a relaxing drive, with space for 4 people and luggage. However, the virtues of a V12 powerplant still provide plenty of urge and a reputation for incredible refinement and smoothness. These practical and reliable cars are the last in the line of the famous E-Types. As a usable and cheaper alternative to the now rocket money early models, the Series 3 cars have the benefit of additional development and comfort.

This 1971 Series 3 has been owned by Conrad for the past four years and during that time he's completed a full restoration, both the mechanics and body to bring this stunning UK car back to life. The total cost of this restoration has been over £40k with supporting invoices and receipts.

We think this is a super smart buy as the low reserve set will ensure this car sells, and it should also give a new owner a very sound financial investment, as well as a cracking car to use and enjoy.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Matt after meeting Conrad the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

We'll be sad to see the car go as we've put a lot of love and time and money into it - but little use means it has to go.

Conrad bought the car about four years years ago from a colleague that had owned the car for around forty years; with the aim of completing a quality restoration.

After a lot of time and money spent, the car was finally completed, and what a job they have done. However, the pair aren't really using the car too much and so they've made the difficult decision to sell.

Conrad will be happy to answer any questions you have in the comments below.

GET YOUR VALUATION

Exterior

Looking sharp and finished in arguably one of the best colours; Old English White.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with wire wheels that really pop against the Old English White in the sun.

The condition of the wheels are excellent - we think they would benefit further from a light detail on a Sunday afternoon!

The tyres look to be all in good condition and are stamped 2018.

Bodywork

Beautiful lines of the E-Type are accentuated with the light paint colour - the panel reflections across the car are good and smooth.

The bodywork is in really good condition with all shut lines looking good - again it's difficult for find fault which is testament to the quality of the recent restoration.

Importantly we've have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

The Old English White paint, a classic Jaguar colour, is in very good condition having been subject to a bare metal respray in 2019. Even in finish and colour across all the panels, there are some very minor stone chips on the front of the car, you need to be looking very very hard to spot any imperfections.

The images taken are from different angles and reflections to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition.

Glass and Trim

All looking in good condition across the car.

Most of the chrome is in excellent condition with many new parts having been fitted - you'll see the invoices for these in the paperwork.

Interior

Lots of patina in the cabin of this E-Type add to the charm, it's a smart affair in all black.

Seats and Carpets

The seats and carpets are in good original condition with just the expected wear that looks to be consistent with the mileage and age of the vehicle.

It's nice to see the original leather maintained with its patina that you can't replicate. So many recent restorations replace this for that 'as new' feel, however, this car has been sympathetically restored and its history preserved.

The headlining could do with some attention as you'll see in the images / videos.

Please take a look at the interior photos to see the full condition.

Dashboard

The dashboard looks in good condition with no marks or issues when we photographed the car.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic Jaguar E-Type steering wheel is wrapped in black leather and looks in good condition, a similar story on the gear stick that's also in good condition; both in line with the age and mileage of the car.

Mechanics

The restoration also tackled the engine and gearbox to give peace of mind.

Engine and Gearbox

What an engine - the legendary 5.3 V12 - one of the smoothest engines to ever have been produced.

No expense spared on this engine and it's looking in fine form and operates well too. Conrad tells us that both the engine and the gearbox have been refurbished to ensure reliable motoring.

Please watch the On the Road video to see the car starting from cold.

Suspension and Brakes

Of course the restoration covered the suspension and brakes too.

Conrad assures is there are no issues with the brakes and suspension - again, please watch the On the Road video to see more.

The Drive

This is a cruising car meant for long distances and it's ready for the new owner to take up this challenge with peace of mind that no part of this car has been left untouched from the recent restoration.

Please take time to watch the On the Road video to see the car being driven on a short run around the local area - the car performed without fault.

Electrics and Other

Conrad informs us that everything is working just as you'd expect.

History and Paperwork

With over £40k spent on a full restoration makes this car a smart financial decision, together with the knowledge that everything's been done.

If you were to buy a standard Series 3 car and spend the money that Conrad has spent then you'd soon be into a lot of negative equity, unless you were gifted the car of course! So with all this time consuming and expensive work having been already carried out, makes it financial sense to a new buyer, let alone the benefit of not having the headache of managing a complex restoration like this yourself.

Please take time to review the paperwork section to see all the recent bills and receipts for the recent restoration. There's also some pictures of the restoration and the new bonnet that was fitted.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition.
Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
