Americas answer to the Land Rover, it's a world icon, instantly recognisable and known for its utilitarian reliability.

Jeep re-engineered the YJ Wrangler with the TJ, improving on its predecessors in every respect. With the old leaf spring suspension gone, the handling was improved on this 2nd generation, along with responsive power steering, cruise control, smart key immobilizer, tilting driver's seat, airbags, and self-adjusting seatbelts.

This "Sahara" has is coming to market from an owner who is going through his bucket list of cars! With a desirable spec and importantly the 4.0L power-train, it's recently had a major engine service and rear glass door replaced, and so is very much ready for a new challenge to be thrown at it.

Meet the owner

It's been a dream of mine since I was young to own a Wrangler, it's been fun.

Owning a Jeep Wrangler has always been a lifetime dream of Chris's and when the opportunity to own one came up earlier in the year he jumped at it. He's currently going through a bucket list of cars he'd like to own, a classic Volkswagen T2 Campervan making way for this Jeep earlier this year. He tell us "I'm only allowed one toy at a time, so this one has to go now to tick off another car".

Over his ownership he's loved taking the car out on weekends, he mentions: "It was the realization of something I wanted since I was young, once you take the doors off and go for a drive it's such a laugh and never fails to put a smile on my face". He's replaced the back glass door and carried out a major service on the engine. Take a look at the full-service history media below for more details. The Wrangler still retains it's utilitarian, no-nonsense look, a no nonsense styling that's lasted five decades.

Wheels and Tyres

The Wrangler is fitted with 5-spoke 15" grey alloy wheels. These wheels present in average condition on each corner, some a little kerbed on the outer edges and some signs of surface corrosion under the paint in places.

The wheels wear Nexen Roadian MT, and appear to have a good amount of tread left for the new owner. Chris tells us these are chunkier items than stock, giving the car a bit more of an adventurous look.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this modern classic example appears in good condition, the gaps and shut lines looking inline and good for a 90's Jeep. There are areas showing some signs of corrosion under the paint, mainly the nearside front wing, and the aluminium door hinges to the back have surface corrosion too.

Paint

The Wrangler is finished in a dark green, which really suits the shape of the car. The finish of the paint appears good, each panel presents with even coverage and colour throughout. This is an off-road vehicle though, and so inevitably it has picked up a number of scratches across the paintwork as pictured.

The images taken are from various angles and reflections to show off the Wrangler at its best, as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. Please take the time to fully assess the condition of the exterior.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks good, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

Interior

Simplistic and neat, the Sahara came with colour coded interior to match the exterior.

Seats and Carpets

The interior of the car looks great for an off-road car, and belies the mileage too, a very well-kept example. The seats, door cards, and headlining look great. The only point to note really is that the drivers seat has some minor wear to the bolster.

The seats are green cloth with tan backs, colour matched as part of the "Sahara" spec. Take a look at the interior video in high resolution for a detailed tour.

Dashboard

The dashboard appears in very good original condition, in line with the age and mileage of the vehicle - a testament to the car's interior being looked after over the years.

Wood veneer trim along with tan uppers on this car. Please take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic original Jeep steering wheel is fitted along with its gearstick, range selector, and hand break - all items appear in great condition in line with the rest of the car.

Mechanics

The Sahara model comes equipped with the powerful 4.0L 6 cylinder engine, perfect for off-road capabilities.

Engine and Gearbox

Powered by a big and mighty 4.0L under the hood, no hill is a challenge with ~175BHP to tap into. This car has just had an oil service this month, ready for another years motoring.

We captured a cold start video that shows the car starting without fuss the first time, and took the car out for a short drive to put it through its paces and go through the gears. Please take a look at the detailed media pack to see a closer view of the engine bay and underneath the car.

Suspension and Brakes

Chris reports the Jeep's suspension and brakes work very well, offering full off-road capabilities without fuss. Take a look at the extensive photos and videos for a closer view.

The Drive

With the ability to travel anywhere the Wrangler is an ideal all-rounder, an extremely practical utility vehicle, used by the military and police worldwide.

Electrics and Other

Chris reports all the electrics, buttons, gauges etc work within the car to his knowledge. The headlights are modern upgrades, Chris mentions they work much more effectively than the standard units, and that the installation is said to be easy to reverse.
