Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
Sleek, elegant, and expertly engineered, the 300 SL (R107) carries forward Mercedes-Benz’s proud tradition of excellence.
Mercedes-Benz have a reputation for comfortable grand touring cars, which was well established prior to the R107 SL that made its first appearance in 1971 and ran though to 1989. The brand's virtues were strengthened by the SL's ingrained quality, ease of use and mechanical hardiness. All this has made it into one of the easiest classic tourers to own today. Robust engineering and durable materials go a long way into making the SL a safe choice for those who like to travel in style without the uncompromising nature of other open-top classics of the era. From 1985 the more efficient 300SL replaced the 280SL - the engine was not only larger but also more powerful with more torque, it also enjoyed the introduction of Bosch’s KE-Jetronic fuel injection system. The KE-Jetronic system varied from the earlier, all mechanical system by the introduction of a more modern engine management "computer", which controlled idle speed, fuel rate, and air/fuel mixture.
Coming to auction from ~11 years ownership, this car has always been kept garaged in that time, is presented in the popular “Signal Red” over 80’s period black leather and sports check cloth upholstery, comes with the matching hard-top and also has the rear seat option too. The car has seen regular maintenance in the current ownership, including important body restoration which included the front subframe restoration in 2016.
This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Don the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Ask Owner
Hi,
I can confirm that the boot carpet is in perfect condition and was removed to allow for pictures of the spare wheel etc. I would add that the spare wheel is a full sized alloy wheel matching those on the car not a plain steel wheel or slim “get you home “ style one.
In respect of the paintwork area of concern it is in perfect order and the bright sunshine has given the illusion that you describe.
Should you have any further concerns or questions please raise them and I will answer them as best I can for you.
Thanks Don.
He the boot carpet missing or simply removed to allow access to the spare wheel for photo purposes? Also, I am uncertain as to whether or not there is some small paint blistering on the n/s door at the front of the ribbed area or is it just an illusion due to sunshine. Can you please confirm. Thank you
Dear Don, would you happen to be available for me to see the car on Tuesday morning (8 July)? My wife and I are currently at the Le Mans Classic with some friends and we arrive back into Portsmouth on Tuesday at about 8:30am. We could divert your way before our journey home to Ipswich. Kind regards Jackie & Robert.
Dear Jackie & Robert,
Thank you for the interest in my car. I am more than happy for you to call on Tuesday 8th July and view the car. I imagine from your sailing itinerary you would be with us around 11.00 am that morning which would be fine for me.
I hope you enjoy the Le Mans Classic it is something I have never managed to do even though there was an organised Members trip with the Healey Club every year, it always seemed to coincide with something else. C’est Le vie.
I believe that Trade Classics will put the two of us in touch to arrange this viewing.
Kind Regards Don
That’s great thank you. We will be with you at 11am on Tuesday and we await your address/contact details as and when appropriate. Kind regards Jackie & Robert.
