Introduction
This MG B GT V8 has been tucked away in a garage for a number of decades and is now emerging as a genuinely interesting barn find. It’s a car that clearly needs re-commissioning, but crucially, it appears complete and ready for restoration.
It’s been in the garage for over 30 years and is now looking for a new home. This is a nice candidate for a heavy re-commissioning to make a driveable classic V8, or for a full restoration into a mint, low-owners car.
The car combines V8 power with complete interior and a solid-looking shell - see mechanical photographs. It’s been stored in the dark and dry for over 30 years.
The history is presented with the car with a few added extras (including vintage ‘MG Club’ stickers)

Thanks,
Colin.
It’s ok I’ve just seen the map harrow
Thanks
No problem! Any more questions let me know.
It’s also easy to access as it’s in a garage on a driveway so it’s good to get to.
Hiya where is the car located please
Hi Ollie.
The chassis no. on the old v5’s is not correct (possibly a dvla transcript error) Could you please locate the actual chassis number on the vehicle (d/s inner wing 150mm back from slam panel is where it should be) and check it.
Any chassis no. anomalies or discrepancy could mean dvla won’t allow number plate transfer and unfortunately a plate can’t be transferred from a mot exempt vehicle unless it actually has had a proper mot. Dvla and their strange rules !!
Please let me know the proper chassis number.
Have YOU driven this car? You mentioned “when it was driven” it was “speedy and lovely to drive”.
Any idea what gearbox it has installed?
Hi! Yeh let me get on this tomorrow. And no i have not driven it personally but my dad has. I will find out tomorrow as much info as I can
Also it’s been checked and it appears to be a rover unit gearbox. Not sure if it’s 4 or 5 gears
Hi. So I have spoken to the guy who looked at the car 6 months ago and he said the chassis number was GHN4/145704 (and most likely an admin error). I will be going to look and confirm the number this morning as I want to be sure.
Hi. So I have looked and I cannot locate the VIN number on the car. The car is snug in the garage and I can’t access certain areas where it might be. I will keep trying to find it. So I cannot verify if that was an admin error with C and G lettering on the number.
Hi Ollie, if it helps, you’re looking for a rectangular aluminium plate approximately 75mm x 30mm. This will be black and silver. It should be around where the oil filter is mounted. Thx btw for info and extra photos
Hi. Cheers. Yeh I looked everywhere for it but as it has the larger rover V8 engine in there now and that maybe obscuring the plate.
Hi Ollie, I just noticed on the mot inspection report under VIN or Chassis no. at the top it says NO or NOT so I don’t think you will find the plate. I’m pretty sure (95%)having researched that the gearbox is a Rover P6 3500s manual 4 speed which would explain the comment on that same mot report regarding the “excessive repairs carried out on chassis structure” as that gearbox is notoriously difficult to fit into a Mgb. If you have time b4 auction end could you add some pics of the exhaust manifolds on both sides. Many thanks
Hi mate. I will try and get over there at some point to take a couple more pics of that for you.
Many thanks
Hi mate. New pics are being added in 10mins which are the ones I think you asked for ?. Let me know.
Yes Ollie, they’ll do, tyvm.

Is the car easily moveable? Will the tyres be inflated or will the axle dollies be provided to assist loading?
Hi. Yeh it’s easily moveable and accessible. I don’t have any axle Dollies. When the car was moved less than six months ago we used skates which belonged to the guys who came to check the car out, so he took them with him.
There’s a picture on there of the car with the side door open outside (the second photo in the ‘mechanics’ photo section), that’s the photo from less than 6 months ago
Hi Ollie do you know when the last time it ran and is the engine turning freely now ? Stefan
Hi! It last ran 1989/1990 and the engine hasn’t been turned for a long time and the battery is dead etc. but I understand that nothing is stuck (so to speak)
But honestly don’t know if the engine turns freely I am just going by what I was told. So I can’t confirm if the engine turns freely
Hi I can now confirm that the engine DOES turn over. Which is great!
Hi Ollie thank you really appreciated
We’re all the correct MG parts used when it was converted to a V8 and when and who did the conversion?
I’m sure all correct MG parts were used but I am not sure who did the conversion. I have all the paper work to hand in the auction lot.
I have checked and I have this info: between 1968 and 1987. It looks professionally done but not by ‘Costello’ (who were the lead company at the time).
I am not sure who did the conversion as it was bought in 1987
Is the registration number transferable
Yes, the registration number is included with the vehicle sale and is transferable in the normal way subject to DVLA rules.
