The 4/4 is instantly recognisable, offering the same charm factor from the very first model, with Morgan's staggering 83 years of heritage.

The 4/4 was originally released in 1936 and has served as one of the world's longest automotive production runs in history, with only a brief pause in manufacturing during the second world war, the Morgan 4/4 production finally ending in 2019. Having been through a number of revisions during that time this particular Morgan 4/4 is a 1600 model first registered in 1990. Being one of the later 1600 models it benefits from a number of manufacturing changes and upgrades such as; a 1.6L Ford CVH engine, five-speed gearbox from a Ford Sierra, wider wings, better corrosion protection, and zinc-plated passivated fittings and fixtures.

This Morgan is coming to market from ~7 years of ownership and has only covered ~20,500 miles since 1990. It comes with some history that details upkeep and maintenance of the mechanical aspects of this sporting roadster. Presented in an attractive red over cream colourway, it's a lovely specification which gives this 4/4 that extra appeal.

I've always been a fan of Morgans, the elegant looks and power, it's been a joy to own.

Lyndon has thoroughly enjoyed ownership of this 4/4 over the previous 7 years, he's had the car in his dry garage, reserved for sunny weekends only which the low mileage and condition clearly reflects.

He was hoping to keep this example to enjoy for many years over his retirement however due to a recent knee operation finds climbing inside this low sports car quite the effort ,and therefore is looking for something a little more practical to drive on weekends. Exterior

Curvaceous exterior styling combined with the striking red paintwork gives this 4/4 an iconic and instantly recognisable look.

Wheels and Tyres

The wire wheels finished in silver with chrome knock off spinners give this Morgan a lot of character. On this example, the wheels appear well cared for, with no sign of any obvious damage to any of the spokes from our observation, with the slightest signs of pitting on the chrome elements.

The wheels are fitted with Toyo 330 tyres and these appear to also be in great condition, dated 2020 with a good amount of tread remaining and no visible cracking or signs of age to the sidewalls.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Morgan looks in great condition, with all the panel gaps around the car looking to align very well. During our visit we didn't spot any obvious dings down the flanks of the car, everything looking crisp and sharp while standing very straight and true.

Paint

Finished in this iconic red colour. The paint is finished to a lovely standard, with even coverage and colour across each panel. We did notice the odd very small and minor stone chip to the front of the car, however, you'll have to get really close to notice these. We noticed a slight area of wear in the door jams and some slight cracking around the rear indicator light, you can see these small defects in the photos and video below.

Again, we have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this 4/4 example looks great and in line with the low mileage and ownership, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The silver bumpers, chrome grille, door handles, and window surrounds all look in good condition too. Take a look at the exterior photos to see both the tonneau cover and convertible hood in great condition with no tears or rips. Lyndon never drives the car with the hood on, only in dry weather.

Interior

Finished in cream leather, red piping with wood trim throughout - the cabin is a small performance-focused space, luxuriously dressed.

Seats and Carpets

The cream leather seats with red piping have held their shape very well over the years, as you would expect for cherished and careful ownership. There are only slight signs of age on the seats in terms of the expected creasing to the leather that comes with age.

Dashboard

The dashboard is covered in a dark gloss wood finish and presents six black gauges in front of the driver.

The dashboard in this 4/4 shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs. With no warning lights displayed, the odometer showed a reading of ~20,454 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A Morgan Moto-Lita wheel is fitted, with a wooden grip. The original steering wheel presents in great condition in line with the mileage of this car, the wooden gloss gearstick looks good too. Take a look at the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

Powered by the refined and more desirable 1.6L Ford CVH engine, the 4/4 is ideal and has a lot to offer on country B roads.

Engine and Gearbox

The 1.6L CVH engine from Ford is a generally reliable unit, on the day of our visit we started the car from cold, and the car performed out on the road the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without fault.

Lyndon reports the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth manual five-speed gearbox powering the rear wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the 4/4, and the smart engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears in good condition and provided a smooth journey on the sweeping Welsh roads. Lyndon has upgraded the brakes over his ownership.

On our short drive in the car, it felt just as you'd expect for a Morgan from this era, coming to a stop without a fuss too.

The Drive

An extremely fun and enjoyable drive is offered with the roof down on this Morgan 4/4. Lyndon has loved using the car for short road trips around his hometown on sunny weekends.

The Morgan fired up the first time with no issues to report. On the road with Lyndon, the car felt tight, it had plenty of power to push it along the road and round those sweeping corners. We didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Lyndon reports that to his knowledge all of the electrics are functional and operational, in line with the rest of the condition of the car. The car has a Panasonic stereo unit fitted.

Coming out of ~7 years of ownership, this low mileage cherished 4/4 is ready to be used and enjoyed this summer.

The car is coming out of a ~7 year ownership with Lyndon. The car has bags of originality and with the Ford 1600CC CVH engine which has that little bit more oomph to it than the earlier cars. The car comes with a cream tonneau cover, a black convertible hood, and a 42mm wooden spinner saver.
