Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Beautifully engineered, agile, elegant and a delight to drive - the 911 is the epitome of the sports car.

1984 brought us the replacement for the SC (Super Carrera), this was the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2. A claimed 80% new engine brought the higher-displacement over the previous 3.0 litre engine. New inlet and exhaust manifolds, together with the crankshafts from the 1978 turbo 3.3, and increased compression ratio boosted the 911 to 207bhp. The 915 gearbox from the SC was used up until 1987, where it was then changed to the G50. Fitted with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection gave better fuel economy and lower emissions.

This LHD "Dark Blue" (L347) 911 was imported from Germany back in 2000, and it's been in the current ownership for ~20 years. The car has been thoroughly enjoyed on regular trips across Europe, and a solid maintenance record comes with the car. In the current ownership it's had a top end engine and gearbox rebuild in 2004, and any necessary bodywork actioned too; sills and kidney bowls in 2009, new front wings in 2014. With a soft top and left hand drive configuration, this car is ideal for trips on to the continent.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Tim the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I have thoroughly enjoyed driving and maintaining the 911 over the past two decades.

The car was first registered in Berlin in 1986 and was later imported to the UK from Munich in 2000 by dealers Williams Crawford. Tim is the third UK owner and has enjoyed putting around ~100,000km on the car over the past ~20 years. He reports the car has been maintained and serviced by Crispin Manners at Oak Tree Garage since his ownership.

Tim mentions the car was ideal for the holidays across Europe he and his wife enjoy each year. Due to purchasing a modern 911 (997) in the exact same colour scheme, he has decided to part with his classic air-cooled 3.2. He'll be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

The Carrera 3.2 maintains the simple and iconic good looks of its predecessor, these cars have all the iconic looks.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with 15" Fuchs wheels and present in good yet used condition - they are shod with Ziex XE914's tyres and all look to have good tread remaining along with a spare in the boot too.

We did notice some slight curbing marks on the outer chrome dishes, please take a look at the images and videos for a detailed look.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this example appears in great condition for the mileage, Tim has had previous work carried out; sills and kidney bowls in 2009, new front wings in 2014. We didn't observe any significant dings or dents down the flanks, the car sits on the road very nicely. The shut lines and panel gaps all appear very straight and true just as you would expect from a Porsche.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The paint finish is very presentable, finished in a lovely shade of "Dark Blue". The finish of the paint is even in colour and coverage across each panel. We did notice stone stone chips and some minor marks to the front on the car and leading edges of the doors, just items that come with age whilst the car has been used.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in line with a car of this age, with no major flaws. There are no fogging patches, cracks or chips. The trim, including the door and glass rubber, is good, with no significant splits or damage but it is showing its age in the form of fading of black colour.

Interior

The classic 911 interior, 5 dial instrument cluster with the rev counter centre stage as ever.

Seats and Carpets

This example is fitted with sports seats that are both in very good condition for their age and use, supportive and comfortable with just some very minor wear on both seat bolsters.

The carpets are good with some slight signs of age. The car has an extra set of overmats in place showing their age, protecting the carpet and what looks to be the original overmats underneath. Overall the interior is presented well and in original condition.

Dashboard

In true Porsche style, the five classic dials are functional, clear and entirely fit for purpose.

Instruments are easy to read and Tim assures us they all work as expected. He has applied some MPH number stickers to keep track of his speed on UK roads.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and gear stick are in good condition too, Tim reports the only not original item in the cabin is the steering wheel which has been replaced with a genuine Porsche example to match.

Mechanics

The air-cooled 3.2L flat-six provides plenty of power, an engaging driving experience, and with the most incredible soundtrack.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine bay is fairly clean, original and is a testament to committed ownership over the past ~20 years. Producing ~228BHP the engine appears to pull well, sounded great and the transfer of power to the wheels through the five-speed gearbox is clean, precise and certain.

The car had a top end engine rebuilt and gearbox rebuilt in 2004. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, and for a closer look underneath the 911, and the air-cooled engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

Tim reports the brakes are engineered to match the incredible performance and handling, Tim assures us the brakes work exactly as they should and have little difficulty slowing this sporting icon when required.

The Drive

Arguably the perfect sports classic, offering the best blend of acceleration and analogue driving experience. The "On The Road" video gives a taste of what travelling in this car is like, take a look to hear Tim talk through the mechanical components of the car and his ownership over the previous 20 years.

Electrics and Other

The car has a its original Blaupunkt player and electrically adjustable seats. Tim has mentioned that the speakers are likely original items, and so only one of them seems to work. It is also noted that the car had a documented odometer chance in 1992, and so the calculated mileage is ~257,000 KM.

History and Paperwork

An opportunity to own an extremely usable example of the 911 Carrera 3.2, it's been well cared for and used for continental touring over 20 years.

The 911 is sold with a folder full of service stamps from Oaktree Manners over the years, MOT reports and original German documents. The top end and gearbox were rebuilt in 2004, sills and kidney bowls in 2009, and the wings replaced in 2014. Tim will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the car in the comments below. Please note, the car had a documented odometer change in 1992, with the old clock reading ~70,000 KM, and so the calculated mileage today is ~257,000 KM.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

Afternoon,

Is the roof electric or manual? Any issues? Is it water tight? Has the hood been replaced in your ownership?

Regards
