Introduction
Darren Rungasamy
The 996 is a well engineered and accessible sports car, with a formidable driving experience.
Practicality, reliability and watertight build quality are not usually associated with sports cars, but for over 64 years, the Porsche 911 has not only become synonymous with its thoughtful ergonomics, durability and craftsmanship, but one of the most convincing arguments for owning a sports car that has almost everything to thrill an enthusiast.
The 996 model is the first-generation of water-cooled 911, and it soon found an appreciative market, solidifying the 911’s legend, but rewarded Porsche with a sales success that would be attributed to stabilising the company. Redesigned from the ground up, styled with an uncluttered interior but retaining the iconic 911 silhouette, it was also cheaper to maintain, stronger and featured state-of-the-art technology.
Offered with four-wheel drive, utilising a 3.4-litre flat-6 engine producing almost 300 bhp, this 2000 Cabriolet comes to market after ~12 years with our vendor and is finished in 'Balsalt Black Metallic', with a Saffron leather interior. It comes with an impressive provenance, which includes 18 service stamps, a binder of invoices reaching back to when the car was new, including its original bill of sales. It has an MOT to December 2026, was last serviced in May 2025 and comes with two keys.

have these issues on the 12/5/2025 be done. osr rake pipe heavily corroded / rear bushes perished / all four rear cv boots perished / both lower rad brackets corroded / rear arm bushes corroded / exhausts clamps corroded / cam carriers leaking both sides / exhaust blow from both clamps. also i have notice that the ims bearing has never been done and could be a big issue if this should fail especially with the miles it has done although Your 2000 car is likely dual-row, but that’s not a free pass
At 114k miles with original IMS & clutch, preventative work will have to be done
Doing nothing = rolling the dice with a £10k+ engine. please let me know before bidding ends. kind regards
The vehicle previously failed its MOT due to excessive corrosion on the nearside front suspension component mounting, which significantly reduced its structural strength and was classed as a major fault. Since that MOT, the necessary repairs have been carried out, and the car has now passed a subsequent MOT and been deemed safe and roadworthy.
The current MOT may include advisories regarding minor or superficial corrosion, which are common in older vehicles, but these do not affect the safety or roadworthiness of the car. I hope that helps?
WHAT THE INFORMATION YOU HAVE ON THE LAST MOT THAT IT FAILED ON NEARSIDE FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENT MOUNTING PRESCRIBED AREA EXCESSIVELY CORRODED SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCING STRUCTURAL STRENGTH CLASSED AS MAJOR ON MOT FAILIURE AND WHEN PASSED IT STILL SAID ON AVISORY VARIOUS CORROSION ? KIND REGARDS GIOVANNI
Hi, do you have any pictures of the underside? There has just been a lot of welding done for the current mot and it also failed the mot on welding in 2020. There is still an advisory for corrosion on the current mot, so I would like to see the condition of the underside if possible? Thanks
Hi Simon,
You can see the underside photos starting here:

You can also see it on the on the road/mechanical review video.
Thanks,
Colin.
What condition are the brake pipes? Have they been changed?
The has just passed its MOT in December and the brake pipes didn’t not even come up with any minor corrosion. If there was any minor corrosion on the brake pipes the MOT would have highlighted this as an ADVISABLE. So we’re all good on the brakes. Hope that helps?
Hi Bally,
Is there any history of the IMS having been done?
Thanks,
Alex
Hi Alex, there have been no problems with the IMS so they’ve never needed any work. It’s mainly the 997 models that have problems with IMS. The car is 2000 reg and still no problems with IMS. I would have thought that any IMS problems would have come up by now. Hope that helps.
