Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
Increasingly appreciated and now firmly on modern classic radar, the 996.2 Carrera 4 represents outstanding value in the 911 lineage.
Launched in 1997, the Porsche 996 Carrera 4 was designed as a sports grand tourer, but it was also comfortable and reliable enough to be used as a daily driver. Upon the launch, the 996 rocked Porsche fans around the world with its new front end design and smooth sides without the larger wheel arches that people were used to with a 911.
This particular example has been in Drew’s ownership for the past ~5 years, during which time it has served reliably as his daily driver. When searching for a 911, Drew was keen to find a low-mileage, low-ownership car in a timeless specification — and this black Carrera 4 ticked every box.
Throughout his ownership, it has been maintained well, with servicing kept up to date and any required work handled promptly. It’s a car that has been enjoyed properly, but also cared for as a 911 should be. The car comes with a fresh 12-month MOT, valid until 25.03.2027.
This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Drew the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Hi Drew, so the IMS bearings haven’t been done yet, I see. Does your have Limited Slip Differential and was It specced with the sports suspension package – M030?
Thanks,
Grant
Hi Grant, thanks for your interest, yes you are correct about the IMS bearing, sorry about the other questions but I am not that technical and do not have that information.
Hi Drew,
noticed in the ‘on the road’ video that you commented the clutch was harder…do you know if it’s always been like that or perhaps getting a little tired?
Cheers
Hi there, thanks for your interest, yes, the clutch has always been like that, it is a feature of these cars, my father did the ‘on the road’ video with Jacob and as he does not drive the Porsche regularly, he is not used to the clutch, I am very comfortable with it after 5 years of ownership.
Hi Drew,
1) Has the IMS/RMS ever been replaced to your knowledge?
2) What is wrong with the washer bottle, does it need replacing?
Hi Ian, thanks for your interest, the IMS bearing has not been replaced to the best of my knowledge, in the 5 years I have owned the Porsche, my regular garage of 5 years never reported any vibrations, bits of plastic in the oil or any oil leaks from the rear of the engine which are obvious signs of problems with the IMS bearing so I have never had any reason to replace it. Due to a retirement, I have changed to a new garage Cameron (Porsche Specialist), Chippenham for this year’s pre-MOT check and MOT, the Porsche was taken for a test drive after the tyres/brakes/brake pipes were renewed and no vibration was present. As mentioned on Monday’s invoice, Cameron (Porsche Specialist) spotted a slight split in the washer fluid bottle which they did not recommend replacing at this time, the screen wash works perfectly.
Hi Drew, I see all of last years MOT advisory suspension arms aren’t on today’s MOT, were these also replaced with the tyres and brakes etc? Thank you
Hello there and apologies for the late reply, I just saw this comment, the Porsche had a pre-MOT check at Cameron (Porsche) of Chippenham who are Porsche specialists, she had the rear tyres, rear brakes and rear brake pipes as recommended by them before the MOT – the new MOT has no advisories so no issues with the suspension
Hi there and thanks for your interest, no there are no ticking noises from the engine at any time, the clutch has not been changed while I have owned it since 2021, as far as I know, the brake pipes are original, the Porsche has just had a full 4 wheel 3D alignment before she has an MOT on 18th March, if 2 rear tyres are required, they will certainly be renewed, the Porsche has been looked after by the same garage for 5 years and has had the suspension checked each year during her annual service/MOT.
Hi, hard to tell in the video, but any ticking noises from the engine especially from cold. I see the last clutch changed was listed as 19 years ago, has it been changed since, also are the brake pipes original.
Lastly this statement, ContiSportContact 3s on the rear (dated 2023), all of which show a good amount of remaining tread. The rear tyres have excessive wear on the insides and are illegal, have you had the rear suspension checked?
I cannot see any images nor mention of the original stamped service book, is this present? Have you had the IMS taken care of?
Hello, thanks for the interest, no I do not have a service book as it did not have one when I bought the Porsche in 2021, I found all the invoices which came with it provided the same and even more detail as a service book and I have provided its service history with invoices for the 5 years I have owned it.
The Porsche has been looked after by the same garage (Westerleigh) since I bought it, they are very familiar with Porsches and have never reported any vibrations, bits of plastic in the oil or any oil leaks from the rear of the engine which are obvious signs of problems with the IMS bearing so I have never had any reason to replace it.
