A triumph of both form and function – the 911 defines the sports car like no other.

Introduced in 1997 and internally designated the 996, this generation was manufactured for 9 years before being replaced by the 997 in 2004. The 996 broke new ground for Porsche with a water-cooled engine and the first new platform since the original 911. The car also offered sleeker body styling, a completely redesigned interior and reshaped “fried egg” headlights, so called as a result of their shape and the incorporation of the amber indicator lenses, later revised to try and get the purists back on board.

For Porsche enthusiasts the 911 knows no equal and this C4S is a superb example. It’s been a fantastic car, fun, pain free and fast – a sure-fire future classic, if not modern classic already.

Linda bought the car from a friend 9 years ago, and ownership passed to her son in 2017. It’s covered around ~20,000 miles in the time the family has owned it, and is clear they have looked after the car. “I had the wheels refurbished early on and they are still great, and we renewed the cooling hoses under the floor 2 years ago”.

Linda goes on to say, “The car had every extra available when new, and we have loved owning it. My son has now bought a newer Porsche and sadly we need the garage space, so it needs to go to a new owner to enjoy”. Exterior

Beautifully simple yet elegant and purposeful – this iconic design is a tribute to the genius of Porsche stylists.

Wheels and Tyres

18-inch "Turbo Twist" alloy wheels are shod with Continental Sport Contact tyres all round. The wheels appear in really good condition with only minor blemishes and isolated curb marks. The front tyres have good tread remaining while the rear tyres, although showing more wear, remain very useable.

Bodywork

Wide-bodied like the Turbo, the C4S features a wider rear track over standard Carreras. The car stands straight and even, shut lines are good and doors, boot and bonnet all open and close precisely and cleanly. The kind of build quality Porsche are famous for.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

The "Arctic Silver" paintwork still looks fantastic and retains a consistent, even shine right across the car. There are odd stone chips and blemishes here and there as you would expect from a 19-year-old car, but overall, the finish is very good.

Glass and Trim

All windscreens, side windows, mirrors and lenses present well and the headlights show no sign of misting or yellowing. The trim and badging is sharp with only some minor wear on the wheel centre caps.

Interior

Great visibility, black leather bucket seats, crisp, clear dials and firm precise controls - perfect ergonomics.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather, electronically controlled seats are in great condition with only minor wear to the driver’s seat bolster as would be expected on a car of this year. They look great, especially with the Porsche crest embossed in the headrests. The passenger seat appears virtually unmarked and the rear is in pretty much showroom condition - have a look at the photos and videos supplied to assess for yourself.

Porsche floor mats are included and the carpet underneath is showing very few signs of use. Take a look at the videos and photographs to appreciate the remarkable interior condition of this car.

Dashboard

Dials are clear, perspex is unmarked and the whole dashboard is clean and presents really well. Switchgear all looks in great condition and Linda assures us everything works exactly as it should.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The beautiful leather, Porsche branded, three spoke steering wheel is in great condition. The gear lever and surround are similar too, you'll often see examples on the market with lots of marks on the gearstick, not on this one.

Mechanics

Taught, eager and responsive – we have high expectations of Porsche and these 3.6L units don’t disappoint.

Engine and Gearbox

The 4S featured the larger 3.6L naturally aspirated block that came later in the production of the 996, and the four wheel drive system was set-up to deliver most of the power to the rear with up to 40% to the front when needed.

This example comes with a host of main dealer and specialist history to suggest this is a car that has been well looked after. It started easily and quickly settles down to a steady idle as captured in the video. Emissions appear clear and there are no warning lights illuminated on the dash. We also took the car out on a short run to go through the gears and see it in action, check out the video to see for yourself.

Suspension and Brakes

The red brake callipers and ventilated, cross drilled discs, framed by the "Turbo Twist" alloy wheels look impressive. This being Porsche engineering they won’t just look good of course! The brakes and suspension will be perfectly balanced to contribute to that legendary Porsche handling. Linda assures us that brakes and suspension work exactly as they should.

The Drive

Take a look at the “On The Road” video to share in the brief test drive we took. The car pulls well, sounds great and is sure-footed and responsive. The gear changes are precise and smooth while there are no untoward knocks, bangs, rattles or squeaks. We always like to think the 4S is the thinking persons 911, wide-bodied good looks and the same widened track as the Turbo, but a more civilised naturally aspirated heart that still delivers that iconic rear engined rear wheel drive experience for the most part, the powered front wheels giving that extra traction when required.

Electrics and Other

All switches, lights and gauges appear in good condition and we are advised all electrics work as they should. The car is equipped with the Porsche navigation system, a Radio/CD player and CD autochanger in the boot.

History and Paperwork

With an almost annual service history, beautiful silver over black specification and sensible miles for a car that could be a daily driver, this C16 UK RHD is a great example.

This 911 C4S has been in the same family for the last 9 years and has been well looked after. Averaging around ~3,000 miles a year during that time, it’s clearly been trusted and enjoyed while at the same time had all the maintenance attention it needs. The paintwork is good and the interior is in great shape. All ready to be enjoyed

The paperwork with the car shows a near full-service history and extensive maintenance. The history file includes original tax discs and MOT certificates as well as original handbooks and receipts for significant expenditure.
