Introduction

Tom Valle
Professional Consigner

The stuff of legends; four-wheel drive, manual, water-cooled 911 Turbo. A compact and practical supercar.

Introduced in 2000, the 911 Turbo (996) completely out-shone its competition, it’s all wheel-drive system collaborated with its performance made it one of the best choices on the market. Coupled with the comfort and practicality of reliable Porsche engineering, it continued to ensure the Turbo remained a household name.

The 996 presented a milestone for the German car maker with a redesign developed by Pinky Lai (also responsible for the designs of both the 987 Boxter and Cayman), lines were smoothed, windscreen pushed back, it also offered a level of comfort that both upon its release and now makes it so appealing to many. The redesign allowed the car to be significantly lighter than its predecessors, whilst being 45% stiffer - in essence it was the first of the modern 911 supercars, but still incorporated the recognisable tear-drop shape of the 911s earlier models.

This 2003 model boasts a reasonable ~57,000 miles from new, all important 6-speed manual gearbox and the turbo inducted 3.6L flat six engine. Finished off with a sleek black leather interior, it offers that unfussy approach you'd expect from a driver and performance focused sports car.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Tom after meeting Michael the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

After 8 exciting years with the 911 Turbo, it’s time to let someone else enjoy it.

Both Michael and his wife have owned this car for around 8 years, covering ~10,000 miles in their ownership, the bulk of that in the first few years. More recently the car has seen very little use and so they think it's time to let it go and be enjoyed by someone else.

Admitting he is not a quick driver, Michael insists this car was a cruiser, one for the looks and styling. The design tweaks this car had applied by the previous owner caught his eye, the contrasting black trim and 19 inch BBS alloys set this car apart from the others he saw.

Exterior

Finished in Arctic silver with black alloys and trim, an elegant silhouette with a sports car presence.

Wheels and Tyres

19” BBS "CH-R" Motorsport wheels have been fitted to this car, in keeping with the contrasting details on this car. They've had Porsche centre caps installed, designed to make the wheels look like they have the racing centre locking mechanism.

Fitted with Kumho tyres on the front and Pirelli on the rear, both sets plenty of life left for the new owner to tear up the road. The wheels appear in good condition with slight marks on the outside edge, view the detailed photos and videos of the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

The bodywork too looks to be in good condition on this 911 Turbo, there appears to be no dents or damage to the panels themselves. All the panels sit tight and upon viewing the car the overall condition would be described as very good.

In the videos and some of the pictures, there is some very slight areas of visible rust that can be seen on the bottom of the front wheel arches caused by stone chips breaking the paint over time. This is being rectified and we will upload updated photos after. In addition to this, there is a slight blemish on the right hand side of the rear number plate.

Paint

This 911 Turbo is finished in Arctic Silver, which looks incredible when polished up.

The paint has a lovely, even finish and complements the black alloys and trim wonderfully. Other than the previously mentioned light areas of rust - upon our observation there is seemingly no other area of note. It was machine polished in 2019, and has only done a few hundred miles since.

Glass and Trim

The glass gleams and looks in excellent condition all around, the seals look tight and not perished. As mentioned, the previous owner made some design tweaks, adding black contrasting trim in the shape of; wheels, wing mirrors, rear wing air intake surrounds, rear spoiler.

The only point to note we found was a crack in the cars front lower splitter. Please view the images and videos of the glass and trim to see in detail.

Interior

A sleek silhouette of black leather with some silver touches, a driver focused cabin.

Seats and Carpets

Black leather seats occupy the interior, with matching black carpets and smooth black plastic surrounding the centre console, all in great condition.

The carpets with a quick clean would come up fresh and giving the leather a wipe over inside too would enhance the bold aesthetic. View the photographs for a closer look.

Dashboard

The black leather dash is in great condition, free from cracking or marks, it is smooth and very clean. The instruments are clearly visible, with digital components that illuminate perfectly at the turn of the ignition.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Continuing the sleek interior, the black leather steering wheel is in great condition, finished with the iconic Porsche badge sitting dead centre.

The gear stick boasts a leather sleeve and the all important ‘turbo’ branding down the side, with all 6 gear motifs still very much visible. Some signs of use on the silver coloured parts, along with the handbrake too. Please take a look at the interior media content for a more detailed look.

Mechanics

The turbo flat six engine can not only be traced back to the 996 GT3, but also the GT1 race car.

Engine and Gearbox

With a 3.6L, flat 6 twin turbo engine, this car is sure to appeal to most. The 6-speed gearbox is used to deliver the power through to all 4 wheels, a standard Porsche produces 415BHP at 6000RPM. This particular example Michael believes pushes out over 500BHP, having had some choice upgrades and work completed by the previous owner, particularly around the flow of air out of the engine as per the invoices.

Michael had a major service (£5,000) completed on the car just over a year ago. This included rebuild of the twin-turbo system, as well attending to ignition coils and spark plugs amongst other items.

Suspension and Brakes

In addition to the design changes, we've been informed the previous owner had TechArt suspension fitted to this 996 Turbo, giving it that slightly lowered stance compared to a stock 996.

It has 4-wheel disc brakes and ABS. Producing more than enough stopping power.

The Drive

A powerful, comfortable and iconic car, the 911 Turbo is certainly one for petrol heads. Michael notes a great drive, rapid acceleration when on boost, but also very comfortable around town.

Electrics and Other

The electronics and cabin on this era of Turbo were a step up from the air-cooled generation. 8-way power seat controls, all working electric windows, even featuring an in-car phone module.

Everything works as it should do to Michaels knowledge.

History and Paperwork

Coming out of 8 years ownership, ~57,000 miles recorded, manual and in coupe form, a strong combination of factors make this a great value 911.

With the Type 996 Turbo now over 20 years old since production, most cars have seen many miles, many cars being close to the 100,000 mark. As you often see with these, the bulk of the mileage was put on by the first few owners, and since then the car has become more of a weekend fancy rather than a car to use daily on motorway runs. With ~57,000 recorded on this car, it sits on the lower end of average mileage for a manual coupe like this, with a much reduced use in the last few years, Michael and his wife have decided it's time to sell. Please note, the private registration will not be included in the sale.

The car has had some choice upgrades in the form of suspension and exhaust system from the previous owner, Michael believing the car now produces over 500BHP. Having had a major service less than 500 miles ago, it's ready for a new owner to enjoy.

We've actioned checks on; Seller ID, V5, HPi.

Good morning
Remap and exhaust was done by specialist cars malton literally just before I bought the car, they told me it was a Revo stage 2 map and a eurocup exhaust about 12.000 miles ago. I had the larger diameter manifolds fit at 50.444 miles approximate 6.000 miles ago. Being honest I wouldn’t know re your comment return to stock but most remaps are easily reversed.
Hope this helps

Hello Michael,
You mention in the descriptions that the engine is producing in excess of 500 bhp as against the standard engine output of 414 bhp – that’s a pretty big increase. I understand that the exhaust system could contribute perhaps 10-15 BHP but can you please tell me where the other power increase comes from, I have looked at the invoices shown and cannot see any items that suggest this increase. Has the engine management system been chipped ? I like your car but would appreciate further information and look forward to hearing from you.
With kind regards and many thanks,
Chris.

Just to clarify the comments under wheels and tyres, the slight marking on the rims are on the rim protectors, which I have a brand new set for the new owner

Firstly I am not a mechanic.
I take my cars for an MOT every year if there is a fail on anything I have it done immediately, so regarding the pipes they are not leaking.
regarding £5 Thousand receipt
B,1, Sump pipes not leaking
B,2, o/s/r coolant pipe . states on paperwork these were re secured no leaking.
C, I was told by porsche Malton the upgrade was a simple remap,
also fitted was big bore manifold and upgraded exhaust

D , It has been serviced in line with use

E, Private number will be removed.

F, I do not have other wheels, all other parts you mention are original
Hope this helps
Michael

A. These issues above have come up repeatedly as advisories on recent MOTs. Is there any leaking? Are these expected to be addressed in near future?
1. Front Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (All)
2. Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (All)

B. Regarding the £5k works carried out in Oct 2019 (picture 35/40 on history receipts);
1. Pipes were left still connected to sump when the turbo was removed, stating that “due to the age and corrosion these pipes would require replacement if tried to remove”. Are these pipes leaking? Have they been replaced?
2. O/s/r coolant pipe “repaired but still leaking” – Has this been fixed and how? i.e. replaced or repaired? What’s the condition of the coolant pipes in general? Have they welded or fixed in another way?

C. To what extent have the upgrades to over 500bhp impacted or strained the engine and turbos? How has this contributed to the need for the rebuild of the twin turbo system and other works carried out? Were there other factors that contributed to this?

D. To what extent has the major service in Oct 2019 addressed all issues with the vehicle given the intermittent service history?

E. Will private plate of MVB6 form part of the sale?

F. Do you have any of the original parts which were replaced, namely; wing mirrors, rear spoiler, air intakes, wheels?

Thanks in advance
