Introduction

Isaac Wass
Professional Consigner

The Porsche 911 has for many years been an iconic benchmark in sports car performance, with the 420bhp Turbo model only serving to further cement its standing in the sports car hall of fame.

The Porsche 911 Turbo (996) was introduced at the turn of the century in 2000, coming from the factory with a staggering ~420bhp coupled to an all wheel drive system that could reliably and quickly put the power down, as a result of this the Turbo quickly became a popular sports car and had no difficulty in upholding the reputation of the 911. Alongside its performance figures the 911 Turbo benefitted from the comfort and practicality of Porsche's German engineering, making it a well rounded car that could be enjoyed and appreciated by all.

This 996 Turbo comes to market from ~2 year ownership, and presents in excellent condition having covered just ~62,000 in its life. It comes in the ever popular colour combination of "triple black", and has a matching hard top too. A solid history file comes with the car, and this particular example has had the ECU remapped to adjust performance towards what comes with the "X50" pack.

This listing was written from information supplied by Isaac after meeting Paul the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Having always been a Porsche fan I knew I’d have to own a 996 Turbo eventually, so when this one came up I couldn’t say no.

Having purchased the car in July 2021, Paul was scratching a long held itch to experience the 996 Turbo. Having owned Porsche’s in the past and coming from a Carrera 4S, he couldn’t resist hopping into the 996 Turbo when this one came along at the right price and the proper spec for his needs.

Now that he’s owned the car, enjoyed the car, and scratched the itch Paul is now looking to sell his 996 in order to free up funds for something new. He'll be happy to answer any questions on the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

Featuring the iconic and instantly recognisable 911 silhouette, the 911 Turbo offers a wide body design and aggressive aero styling with its front and side vents.

Wheels and Tyres

The 911 Turbo is fitted with 18” "Turbo Twist" wheels and Bridgestone tyres, these both appear to be in good condition. There are some signs of minor scuffing/clear coat wear on the wheels but nothing a light refurbishment wouldn’t fix.

The Bridgestone tyres look to have a reasonable amount of tread left and the sidewalls are free from any cracking or other such damage, the DOT mark dates the tyres as being from 2016.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the car looks to be in good stead, with no obvious signs of damage or repair. We didn’t note any misaligned panel gaps or improper body lines, however there are a number of small dings on the rear panel above the engine hatch, however these have not broken the paint and are merely cosmetic. Please note the bonnet was open when we took our technical photos of the car, it aligned properly when closed as you'll see in many of the pictures.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The "Basalt Black Metallic" paint is a deep rich black, with a lovely metallic flake in direct sunlight, really adding to the sleek and refined shape of the vehicle. When inspecting the car we didn’t note any major scrapes, chips, or bumps to the paintwork, nor did we spot any mismatch in paint colour between panels. However we did notice some swirl marks around the car, this should be an easy fix for a detailer to give a deep shine to the paint.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass on the vehicle is virtually free of any blemishes whatsoever, with both front and rear windscreens being free of chips and cracks, the same can be said for the side windows. The trim on the vehicle is also in good condition, with the front and side vents looking to be free of any noticeable damage too.

The scuttle panel did look to be a bit discoloured, not a major issue though and something the correct detailing product would easily improve. Additionally we didn't notice any rips or tears in the roof, we did notice a few marks though, possibly from how the fabric folds when the roof is down. It is in fully functioning order too.

Interior

The 911 Turbo provides a driver focused cockpit with a comfortable full leather interior - both driver and passenger will feel at home in this luxurious and comfortable cabin.

Seats and Carpets

The electric leather seats with memory and heat function look to be in good condition with no obvious cracks, rips, or tears. The hide features the Porsche crest embossed in the headrest, and is not faded or overly worn in any of the usual problem areas, there is only some slight wear to the drivers bolsters as is to be expected with a car of this age. The rear seat on the drivers side does have some impressions in the leather, however these could be massaged out with relative ease we think.

Given the luxurious feel of the rest of the 911 Turbo interior, the carpets are of equal quality, with a nice amount of pile and no obviously worn or discoloured areas.

Dashboard

The dashboard features the typical 911 five gauge layout, providing the driver with all relevant information at a glance. These clocks are in fully working order and do not appear damaged or broken, the same can be said for the rest of the dashboard which is in equally nice condition.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel's condition is in line with the rest of the interior, with no signs of heavy wear or scratches to the leather. Likewise the stitching is in good condition too.

The same story can be told for the automatic gear stick, which is in good condition with no visible signs of wear.

Mechanics

The 3.6L flat-six engine is complimented by a twin-turbo forced induction set up, producing a staggering ~420bhp from factory that is sent to all four wheels via a tiptronic gearbox for precision gear shifting.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.6L flat-six engine starts first time and runs just fine, with no unusual noises noticed. During our ‘Cold Start’ video you can see that it starts without hesitation and proceeds to idle comfortably. The car was last serviced in September and the car has covered ~1,700 miles since then. Last year, Paul had an ECU remap to bring the performance of the car towards that of an "X50" pack car.

In terms of the Tiptronic gearbox, the car moved through the gears without issue on our short trip. If you want to see the car in action feel free to watch our "On The Road" video to see the car on the road.

Suspension and Brakes

The 911 Turbo comes with a very capable suspension set up leaving very little to be desired, it handles extremely well under more active driving and manages to also provide a comfortable ride when cruising too.

The car features 6 pot callipers on the front, providing more than enough stopping power, even for ~420bhp. The callipers are painted a bright red and sit snugly behind the 18” wheels to offer maximum brake size for the size of the wheels and when looking around the car the discs, pads, and callipers all looked to be in good condition.

The Drive

As expected from a car of this calibre the drive provided by the 911 Turbo is sensational, with more than enough power, torque, and an all wheel drive system the car is capable of some very quick driving. Not only that, but it offers one of the comfiest Porsche interiors available, still loved by many. The 911 Turbo has managed to find what some might call the perfect balance of performance, practicality, and comfort.

On our drive with Paul the 911 Turbo felt refined and powerful, it rode bumps well and had plenty of power when needed. We didn’t notice any unwanted noises from either the engine or suspension.

Electrics and Other

During our time with the vehicle we checked most electrical systems and found everything to be working as it should, including the rear spoiler and the electronic convertible roof, both of which go up and down without issue.

Any electronics that we didn’t check Paul assured us they were working like they should. The car features electric adjustable heated seats, that also have memory function. The car also comes with Bose speaker system, and the stereo has been upgraded to a DAB unit.

History and Paperwork

Having bought the car with an excellent service history, Paul has kept up to date on servicing during his ownership, this car comes to market with low miles and in beautiful condition, ready for the summer ahead.

Paul bought the car, in part, due to its great service history, and also the condition the car stands in. Since purchasing the car he has had it serviced in September of last year, keeping in line with the yearly service recommended by Porsche. The services have been carried out by a mixture of Porsche main dealers and Porsche specialists.

The complete list of optional equipment on the car is as follows;

Porsche crest embossed in headrests
Aluminium Tiptronic selector lever
Handbrake lever with aluminium inlay
Tiptronic transmission, 5-speed
Tiptronic buttons for steering wheel
Seat Heating
Wheel caps with colored Porsche crest
Automatic speed control
Park Assistant
Telephone module for PCM
CD changer

HI Paul, Does the car have current MOT, if bought would probably look to drive away, so is it easy to fit hard top and does the stand collapse down and fit into car or would it need to be delivered seperatley, thank you Nick

Hello Paul, i notice there are a few trim covers missing especially when roof down, do you have them, also on the road test there is a lot of creaking noises as if trim loose or suspension, can you comment, thanks. Steven
