Back to the timeless good looks, and incredible performance with the S - this example is ready to be used and enjoyed.

The most obvious element of the 997 refresh is the replacement of the front end 996 design, reverting the car back to the more traditional 911 round headlights. This 4S variant offers more power from an increased displacement and not only does the 997 looks the part but also performs on par with the world's best sports cars, especially in terms of acceleration and handling.

This car is presented in a lovely "Midnight Blue Metallic" colour, with a "Metropole Blue" cabriolet roof and "Ocean Blue" leather interior. It comes to market from the original ownership, has covered just a modest ~65,000 in that time. The car is said to have been maintained regularly by a friend of the owner, and importantly the car had an engine rebuild in 2015 by Porsche specialists Hartech. This car offers everything I was looking for and more; speed, sound and handling, the 3.8L flat-six is intoxicating.

David has thoroughly enjoyed this Porsche over the past 16 years, he ordered the car new with a whole host of optional extras back in 2007, and really fancied the car in the "Midnight Blue Metallic" over "Metropole Blue" colour scheme.

He had been in the market for a sporty convertible to enjoy in the UK, but due to recently moving house and lack of use, David has decided to part with his 911 Carrera 4S, to find an owner who will enjoy the car as much as he has. The classic 911 silhouette, finished in Midnight Blue Metallic - a timeless head turner.

Wheels and Tyres

From the factory, David ordered the car with option 405 - 19 inch Carrera Classic wheels. The wheels look in good condition today, and a welcome change from the oft-seen "Lobster Claw" alloys with the S. We did however notice subtle signs of curbing on each edge of the rim, and some wear to the central badges, elements that should be easy to rectify for a new owner.

The wheels are wrapped in Nexen N Fera SU1 (dated 2022) at the front and Bridgestone Potenza (dated 2018) at the rear, all tyres look to have lots of tread left. View the gallery for the detail.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this 997 4S with regards the panel gaps looks good and to align well. On the whole we didn't observe any obvious dings or parking dents other than a mark to the right of the front number plate, and no obvious signs of corrosion either.

Paint

Finished in "Midnight Blue Metallic" (L39C), the paint appeared in good condition on our visit, considering the age and use of the car, there is a fair amount of age-related marks across the bodywork, for example the leading edges of the doors and below the offside rear lights. The car offered some deep reflections and good lustre to the paint, however would benefit from a deep detail.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks great and in line with the mileage and ownership, we didn't notice any major chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit.

The cabriolet roof in "Metropole Blue" works as it should, yet would probably benefit from a deep clean with a specialist cleaner, along with the inside headlining too.

Everything is positioned for the driver - the 997 interior was a step-up from its predecessor.

Seats and Carpets

The car is fitted with "Ocean Blue" (FE) leather seats to compliment the exterior paintwork, they look great and really suit this car. The seats look in good condition in line with the age and the mileage of the car. There are creases and subtle signs of use etc beginning to show around the edges as you'd expect on an example that has been enjoyed.

The door cards have Bose speakers fitted within them and mats present in fair condition, the car would benefit from a deep clean to take it to the next level. Please take a look at the extensive media for a detailed view of the cabin.

Dashboard

The dashboard is wrapped in dark leather with white dials and red needles. The Porsche dials appear in great condition and are easily legible. The car features cup holders and a glove box, some minor wear is shown on the leather.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel in smooth leather, the wheel presents in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The gear stick is also in good order with some slight noticeable marks in line with the age and use of the car. Please take a look at the interior photos and videos to appreciate this performance focused interior.

Mechanics

A 997 that has been recently serviced and had money spent on all the important mechanical elements including a full engine rebuild.

Engine and Gearbox

The 4S was has an upgraded displacement of 3.8L over the standard 997 3.6L to get the most out of the cars chassis, coupled with the six-speed manual gearbox - please watch the "On the Road" video to see the car being started from cold, then run when up to temperature. On our short trip out, David operated the gears with ease.

In 2015 Hartech independent Porsche specialists and Manor Garage carried out a full engine rebuild costing a total of £13,081.92. This included stripping the engine, cylinder head overhaul, supply and fit all new Nikasil plated aluminium alloy cylinders, rebuilding all new gasket/seals, crankshaft oil jets, water pump, intermediate chain blade guide, crank to intermediate chain horseshoe guide, 3 cam to intermediate shaft chain rails, modified intermediate shaft bearing, intermit shaft (2006 onwards later larger bearing version), 3 new pistons, full piston ring set, crankshaft bearings (big end, main & thrust), flywheel sensor and a low temperature thermostat. A new clutch was fitted in 2015 as part of this work too.

Suspension and Brakes

Fitted with adaptive suspension, perfect for adjusting to any driving circumstance.

David reports maintenance on the brakes and suspension has been carried out ensuring that everything works as expected.

The Drive

The 911 is an extremely high-performance sports car, offering every driver a proper thrilling experience, and is the main reason which has kept David in ownership of this model for over 16 years.

Electrics and Other

David also tells us that all the electrical items work as expected, e.g. electric convertible roof, sat nav, heated seats, adaptive suspension, and spoiler.

The car also has Bose premium sound that is truly an exceptional experience in this car - a great option, along with a parrot hands-free system and C-Tek trickle charger.

One owner from new, modest mileage of ~65,000, and importantly a Hartech engine rebuild in 2015 make this 997 C4S an attractive proposition.

The car is coming to market from the original owner, ~16 years ownership, and the car has just been serviced in January this year. It is prevalent with this model of Porsche for the motor to require replacement sometime between 25,000 and 50,000 miles. Porsche failed to give any notice that this would be needed. mine went ar 45,000 in 2015 and had a total rebuild by Hartech, the Porsche specialists, if you were buying this model without this having been done then here is the warning. It has nothing to do with servicing.

Paul. the rebuild by Hartech was caused by a fault in this model of Porsche. Do not buy this model unless the seller has paid for this to be done, it has nothing to do with servicing.

Can I ask what was the cause of the need for an engine rebuild?

This model of Porsche had a fault requiring a total rebuild somewhere between 25,000 and 50,000 miles, mine at 45,000 in 2015 by Hartech.

The book only shows two stamps for the 16 year ownership. Was it serviced more than this but just not stamped in the book?

There are two stamps because having experienced Porsche service twice I decided that I was far better off getting my car looked after by a mechanic I knew and trusted.
