Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Editor and Photographer

The 997 Turbo is a definitive icon for enthusiasts who demand both pedigree and practicality.

The Porsche 911 (997) Turbo is widely regarded as the high-water mark for the water-cooled 911 era. Blending world-class performance with everyday usability, it serves as the ultimate "all-weather" supercar.

At its heart lies the legendary 3.6L "Mezger" engine, a motorsport-derived powerhouse famous for its immense strength and reliability. With its advanced four-wheel-drive system and the introduction of Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG), the 997 Turbo delivers explosive acceleration and surgical precision, all while maintaining the refined road manners of a luxury grand tourer.

Generating approximately 475 BHP via twin turbochargers delivered through an all-wheel-drive system, the car’s sporting credentials are unquestionable. This remarkable capability transforms a high-performance machine into a versatile vehicle that is as exhilarating on the open road as it is composed and civilised in daily driving.

Coming from almost 3 years with our vendor this smartly presented 2008 997 Turbo is finished in 'Basalt Black' over a black leather interior and has just ~48,015 recorded miles. It features the desirable Sport Chrono Plus package paired with the 5-speed Tiptronic S transmission. The car benefits from a recent gearbox rebuild and is supported by an impressive maintenance history, including over £13,000 in invoices.

Having been last serviced in March 2026, the vehicle is accompanied by its full owner’s wallet and booklets, along with two keys and an MOT valid until July 2026.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Tim the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Exterior

The iconic lines of this example are beautifully enhanced by its impressive condition and 'Basalt Black' finish.

Wheels and Tyres

The 19” Turbo 5-spoke alloys present positively, with the occasional mark.

The front and rear of the car are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, with the front showing a spec of 235/35 and 305/30 to the rear. They are date-coded from 2022. They all have legal tread. The nearside rear tyre has a couple of minor sidewall marks.

Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.

image

Bodywork

The exterior reflects the car's positive provenance, with no suggestions of age. The shut lines are even, with doors that open and close with ease. Both passenger door glass drop functions operate as they should. The panels are flush to the body and free of any damage, other than a minor and treatable dent on the passenger door.

The underside of the Porsche looks solid, with no outstanding flaws. The wheel wells, engine bay and jacking points are in good shape.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

image

Paint

The 'Basalt Black' paint finish has even coverage with a decent lustre; the sun catches some swirling that can be corrected with a machine polish, and the nose has a light peppering of road wear, but nothing that has penetrated beyond the top coat. There are a handful of minor age-related surface marks elsewhere, but the car is above the expectations of a car of this age.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

image

Glass and Trim

The glass, seals, lights and lenses are all smartly presented.

The front air dam trim shows road wear scuffs and mild distortion, but otherwise, the trim is in good order.

The bumpers are flush to the body and free of marks.

image

Interior

The well-maintained cabin is further elevated by the Sport Chrono Plus package and full leather interior.

Seats and Carpets

Inside, the cabin presents positively: the heated black leather seats are clean, exhibiting only light creasing on the bolsters consistent with careful use.

Both the carpets and floor mats are well-maintained and completely dry, while the luggage compartment trim is tidy and free of wear.

image

Dashboard

The dashboard presents well. The padding and stitching are good, the leather showing a few minor imperfections in places. While the centre console plastics show minor signs of age, and a light mark is visible on the glovebox lid, the interior's overall condition reflects a history of careful ownership.

The switchgear and controls display well, though it is noted that the speedometer display has a few dead pixels.

Rounding out the cabin, the door cards, trim, and Alcantara headlining are all tidy, and the air conditioning blows icy cold.

image

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The multi-function steering wheel has mild wear on the leather padding, but otherwise displays well.

The gear lever is in good shape.

image

Mechanics

The 3.6-litre Turbo engine is celebrated for its reliability and effortless capability as a high-performance daily driver.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine fires up with no unwanted rattles or noises. The dashboard lights remained off as the engine idled. There was no unwanted exhaust smoke, and the car remained leak-free during our visit.

The engine is clean, reinforcing the car's impressive maintenance history. It was last serviced in March 2026 and has covered less than 1000 miles since then.

The Tiptronic gearbox operates without any reported faults, its kick-down is instantaneous, and it handles the power confidently and smoothly. Previous MOT records noted a gearbox seepage which was fully addressed in March 2026 through a comprehensive gearbox rebuild at a cost of nearly £4,000.

image

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension is naturally firm, with Tim demonstrating its PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) working as it should. The suspension absorbs the road without issue, with no unwanted rattles or thuds.

The braking is very effective, smooth and free of negative feedback; the discs are in good physical health.

image

The Drive

The 997 Turbo maintains an enviable reputation for sure-footed traction, razor-sharp steering, and immense torque that remains impressive even by modern standards. What truly defines the model, however, is the seamless blend of these performance traits with genuine daily usability and comfort.

During the test drive with Tim, the car demonstrated its versatility across both congested and open roads. In slow-moving traffic, the engine’s impressive flexibility ensured a smooth, manageable experience without any hint of hesitation. On the open road, the hydraulic steering remained precise and free of play, delivering communicative tactile feedback.

On an open stretch of road, Tim accelerated to 50 mph, demonstrating a linear power delivery that felt remarkably potent and offered a clear glimpse into the car's impressive supercar performance. The car's grip proved superb, with the wheels remaining quiet during both acceleration and braking. The cabin was equally composed and free of rattles, providing a refined and effortless ride that marks the car as an ideal companion for long-distance travel.

Tim has reported no issues with oil pressure, and the engine temperature stayed perfectly stable throughout our visit, even with the engine idling for extended periods on a hot day.

The 'On the Road' video displays a red light on the main dial which was simply a low fuel warning. This light was extinguished after Tim refuelled the car halfway through our road test.

image

Electrics and Other

The interior features a Kenwood 7-inch AV receiver with Bluetooth and smartphone integration. Tim has kept the original factory unit for the next owner.

This example is highly specified, boasting the desirable Sport Chrono Plus package, a sunroof and park assist.

While we didn't test all electrics during our visit, Tim assured us everything was working, to his knowledge.

image

History and Paperwork

An extensive maintenance history is bolstered by a recent gearbox rebuild and a comprehensive record of servicing.

Having previously appeared on Trade Classics, this 997 Turbo was first registered in September 2008 by Porsche Centre Edinburgh. Since acquiring the car in 2023, Tim has kept the maintenance up to date, including a gearbox rebuild by a specialist earlier this year at the cost of £4,000.

The previous owner, who purchased the car in 2018, documented approximately £9,000 in upkeep and maintenance during their tenure. The car is accompanied by its complete owner’s wallet, booklets, 9 service stamps and two keys. It was last serviced in March 2026 and holds an MOT valid until July 2026.

Tim has finance on the car and this will be cleared before the new owner completes the sale.

The car's personalised plate is included in the sale (Y10 GEC); it will be transferred back to the car shortly.

The list of options on the car include:

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check. The check flagged up that the car has finance on it, this has now been cleared and the HPI certificate has been released.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Tim,

I’m currently the highest bidder really like the car and how it’s been presented.

Just had a couple of quick questions so I can understand things longer-term:

– Has any of the suspension been refreshed (PASM dampers, arms, bushes), or is it largely original?

– Have the front radiators/condensers ever been replaced or cleaned out?

– Are the coolant pipes/hoses original, or have any been done?

– Are the turbos original, and have they been trouble-free?

– Do you know if the front discs/pads have been replaced recently?

And just one more if you were keeping the car or buying it again now, is there anything you’d proactively replace or address at this stage?

Nothing concerning from the listing just trying to plan ahead a bit.

Thanks again really appreciate how well the car seems to have been looked after.
