Introduction
Ashley Dawson
A true icon - bold, muscular, and built for pure driving pleasure, it captures the spirit of open-top motoring in its most classic form.
The Triumph TR6 represents the last great chapter of the classic British roadster era, embodying everything enthusiasts love about open-top motoring. With its bold, muscular styling by Karmann, distinctive squared-off tail, and purposeful stance, the TR6 was both elegant and sporty, capturing the spirit of 1970s design.
Under the bonnet, its smooth and powerful straight-six engine delivered the kind of performance and soundtrack that made every journey exciting, whether carving through winding country lanes or cruising with the roof down. Comfortable enough for long drives yet raw and mechanical in its feel, the TR6 struck the perfect balance between everyday practicality and spirited motoring.
This TR6 comes to market after ~37 and a half years with our vendor, it has had a great amount of time and effort, and indeed money, spent on the Triumph in recent years, the TR6 is excellent and must be one of the best on the market right now. Restorative works over the previous years have included; engine rebuild, a full strip and rebuild of the overdrive gearbox, fuel pump refurbishment, new carpets, headlining kit and new wheel medallions.
Work continued with wheel refurbishment, new seals, tyres, replacement hood straps, re-trimmed wheel arches, chroming work, seat belts, body works, brake updates, wheel bearings, fuel pipes, main loop upgrades, new injector pipe kit, diff rebuild and a respray in 2010.
The works have totalled over ~£30,000 through 2010 and 2011 with the bodywork been actioned by the reputable Jules BodyCraft- a seriously impressive project for the lovely Triumph. But don't be put off by all this spending, thinking it might be out of your budget, the seller Douglas understands current market conditions and the likely value - so a very keen reserve has been set. If you're after a TR6 then get involved in the bidding, as you might find you end up owning one of the best in the country.
All set for its new owner, the TR6 ready to drive away and enjoy in style and comfort.

Thanks Douglas. I spent a bit of time this morning having a clue look at the pictures. One of the pictures shows the underside of the bonnet with black dots? The steering wheel appears to have a tear? The wiring loom tabs under the bonnet and round the master cylinder look to have bubbles in the paint, is there any paint blemishes on the car? Again it might just be the pictures. Have the seats had new foams? There appears to be signs of mildew/damp damage on the door cards, centre consul, velvet backed door seals, sun visors etc. how has the car been stored up to now? I’ve just completed a nut and bolt restoration on a Spitfire so maybe I’m just paranoid:-)
Thanks.
Hi,
Douglas has sent over some more photos, you can see them from here:

Thanks,
Colin.
Douglas asked me to pass on his response too:
No problem, perfectly reasonable questions. The underside of the bonnet was also waxoyled. The spots are where mist from oil, grease, road dust etc has stuck to the waxoyl. They can be wiped off.
Yes, the steering wheel does have a small split were your thumb holds it. Nothing more than honest wear and tear. Photo to follow.
There is light bubbling of the paint around the master cylinder. I could not see any around the loom tabs although there is a small touch up paint spot near to one. The only other blemishes I am aware of are where the bonnet stay rubs against the paintwork on top of the wheel arch and where the hose from the air inlet manifold to air valve touches the underside of the bonnet. Please see photos.
The driver’s seat has had new foams to seat back and base. Similarly, the seat back to the passenger seat (base is OK). The passenger visor was also replaced because the foam had deteriorated affecting the mirror. I doubt the marks to the door cards, console, velvet to door seals is due to damp/mould. The car has been kept in a ventilated and heated garage, where there is a radiator, thermal store, and internal units for two heat pumps. The car windows and bonnet are also left part open. It is more likely to be down to 50 years wear and tear from people’s knees, feet, bags, dogs… NB The car was my daily car for ~20 years including many trips up to Scotland where my parents lived and to the Scottish Borders TR weekend. With some exceptions (foams, carpets etc) much of the cabin trim is original. Personally, I prefer the authenticity, patina of the original components and purposefully chose to maintain that look as much as possible when it was restored. Photos to follow.
Hi. The car looks great. I see the pictures of the sill which appears to show flaking paint or, is it reflections. If it is flaking paint are there any other areas affected?
Thanks
Hi, It is waxoyl. There is no flaking paint. I will ask Trade Classics to upload some photos so you have a better view.
Thanks
Douglas

Thanks,

Hi, the colour was changed in 2011 by JulesBodycraft. Yes, the history of the car would support that mileage. The engine and gearbox were overhauled in 2011 by Willenhall Engine Centre and Klassik Transmissions respectively. Thanks, Douglas
Hello, I see the car was originally red. Could you confirm when it was painted and by who. Presume the original engine / box has covered 124k miles. Thanks
Hi Douglas, appreciate the car appears in lovely condition, but 150 miles driven in 10 years COULD lead to potential problems in fuel and hydraulic systems, tyres etc. Can you please give any details of any measures taken to avoid problems later on… many thanks ..Richard
Hi Richard,
With respect to fuel, I prefer to keep a full tank of premium petrol and run the car for minimum of 20 minutes at 2-3K revs every quarter. I have not used stabiliser as I am not convinced of the benefits.
As regards the tyres I roll the car regularly and use chocks, rather than the hand brake and keep them at 2 – 4 lb/inch above standard.
The car has also had regular fluid checks/changes, greasing when its MOT’d ( NB 5 MOTs since exemption rule and lack of advisories) for my own peace of mind and safety reasons. I think there is an argument for some form of testing of classics by qualified professionals with proper equipment to identify and hopefully avoid problems.
Thanks
Douglas
Thank you for your reply Douglas 🙂
Hi Mark thanks for your interest in the car. Collection on 21st or morning of 22nd September is OK. Afternoon of 22nd I have a commitment. Hope that helps.
Douglas

Hi Douglas
Very interested in the car.
If I am the winning bidder and paid in full on purchase, would there be a chance you could hold on to the car until 21/22 sept as I am on holiday 12-21st sept
Thank you for any help
Mark
Hi there, I am in Aberdeen so wouldn’t be possible to view in advance of bidding so can you advise if you had been keeping the vehicle are there any works you would be contemplating ? Also would you be confident in driving the car to Aberdeen or would you recommend I have it trailered up. Appreciate your honesty and anything you advise is unlikely to put me off bidding.
Kind regards
Hello, the car is in excellent condition, so no, I would not be looking to do anything to it. If I were buying it I would probably trailor it not because I have concerns about the distance but because I prefer to drive it in dry road conditions since it was restored.
Hi Douglas, many thanks for your honest response. It’s comforting to know your thoughts. If I am lucky enough to win the auction I would as you’ve suggested look to trailer it up here.
Kind regards
Hello, is the roof in good condition with no tears. Thanks
