Introduction

Chad Hamel-Smith
Modern Performance Specialist

The CS takes the standard M4 and moves its performance up to the next level - more power, more fine-tuned, more BMW 'M'.

The BMW M4 is a high performance variant of the 4 Series developed by BMW's in-house Motorsport division originally manufactured in 2014. The 2018 version takes a further step up from its previous incarnations gaining an additional 28hp from its initial launch. Boasting revised suspension for better handling, new springs, dampers and adaptive M Suspension. BMW also re-tuned the electronic diff and the Dynamic Stability Control to match the upgraded hardware.

The CS (Club Sport) is an enhanced version of the standard and Competition Package, taking the BMW up a notch further meaning the car on show here has been enhanced just enough to still allow you to use it on public roads without major issues, but is almost built a track-ready machine. With only a very small run line of these being made, rarity is a big part of owning this car.

With performance in mind, several elements of the CS have been designed to save weight, giving the car an extra edge of some of its competition. The CS's bonnet is 25% lighter than an M4's standard bonnet being manufactured from carbon fibre reinforced plastic. Keeping with the premium materials; the front splitter, rear spoiler, rear diffuser and roof skin are also all formed in carbon fibre. Other weight saving features include "compacted natural fibre" interior door panels, fabric latch pulls (as seen in the M4 GTS) and light weight M sport seats - trimming off 16 kg of excess weight compared to the M4 Competition Pack.

All this refinement gives the BMW serious road presence and excellent driving dynamics, the end result adding an extra 10bhp compared to the Competition Package. With its weight saving exercises and performance work, this takes the M4 CS beast up to ~454bhp with a 0 to 62mph time of ~3.9 seconds and potential 'track ready' top speed of ~174mph. Coming to market with ~11,925 miles on the clock at time of visit, individual paint finish, paint protection film, carbon ceramic brakes and a full BMW warranty, we think this M4 CS is too good to miss.

The price quoted here is fully inclusive, i.e. there's nothing else to pay on top and also includes free delivery to any mainland UK destination. I'm here to answer any questions you may have about the car - just select the red 'I'm Interested' button above to get in contact with me.

Exterior

A clean matt finish with carbon accents gives the M4 CS an aggressive 'race ready' look even when standing still.

Wheels and Tyres

With a staggered stance the M4 CS runs on 19" front wheels and 20" rear lightweight forged wheels. The reason for this is to provide additional grip and handling to the drive performance due to the rear wheel drive setup - a proper drivers' car.

The front wheels are fitted with 265/35 and the rears with 285/30. The front tyres were chosen by BMW to improve the car’s steering precision with the wider and larger rears chosen to increase grip. Both sets of wheels are running on the original Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyre sets with a date code of 2018 observed on these.

Bodywork

The bodywork on the M4 CS is in excellent condition; looking around the car there are no dings that we noted. The door shut lines are visually equal and matching, as are the bonnet and boot.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in a sublime coat of Frozen Dark Blue II (Paint code P5Z) the matt blue paint coat is created by the specialists at BMW Individual and looks great across the body. The colour shows in a really eye catching way and noted no major scratches or any unwanted marks across the panelling. Additionally, the car is covered by a paint protection film helping to protect the paintwork from stone chipping - this is actually Xpek Stealth PPF, one of the best films on the market and it had a 10 year warranty at the time of fitting with circa 7.5 years remaining.

Again, we have taken high resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves. The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

All of the glass sections around the M4 CS showed really well with windscreen, windows, mirrors and lenses all appearing in a very good condition with no cracks, chips or significant scratching that we observed on our visit.

Take a look through the exterior gallery and review video, we take you across all the areas of the car as if you were standing there for yourself. This way, you can see in greater detail what a great looking car the BMW really is.

Interior

Premium materials and build quality finish off the interior of the BMW with a real performance edge.

Seats and Carpets

Upholstered in Merino leather and Alcantara (a premium lighter and harder wearing material than an equivalent suede leather) the 10-way powered heated M4 Sports seats hold the driver and passenger with a great deal of comfort over long journeys, even when powering around a track. A nice additional touch to the interior are the BMW M stripes incorporated into the front seat belts and illuminated M4 logos set into the seat backs.

Carpets sections show well with limited wear or markings on these along with the roof lining and renewable natural fibre door cards - finished in a smart 'carbon fibre' effect.

Over in the boot, the carpeted sections show very nicely and are all clean and tidy without cause for concern.

Dashboard

This model is all about the driving experience and the controls have been laid out with the driver in mind. Dash instruments present really well showing no signs of fogging or display issues with the odometer showing a reading of ~11,925 miles on clock during our visit. To the centre, the main screen shows the satellite navigation system and infotainment system which we show in more detail on our 'Interior review' video.

Our interior gallery section takes you over some closer images of the M4 CS dashboard, head over and see the cars interior in finer detail.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The multi-function, Alcantara wrapped wheel provides a little extra grip compared to standard leathers keeping the driver focused on the road. Also featured are media functions for stereo, call options and speed limiter / cruise control.

Mounted behind the wheel, 'paddle-shift' levers give ultimate driver control for gear selection should you wish to override the automatic drive. Also featured on the wheel are 'M1 / M2' buttons, configurable to allow different levels of aggression based on your driving taste.

With premium materials evident on several sections of the M4 CS interior, Alacantara provides the 'soft feel' areas around the gear stick and centre section of the cabin area, also wrapping the handbrake gaiter.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

Producing ~454bhp with a 0-62mph time of ~3.9 seconds - the 'track ready' potential top speed of ~174mph brings a level of power that is almost unthinkable until you drive one of these cars.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.0L Twin Power Turbo inline-six petrol engine in the BMW M4 CS makes super sports car performance truly possible. All power is sent to the rear wheels via the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The M4 CS started first time and sounded beautiful in our 'On The Road' video which we conducted for the mechanical video - also take a look through the video to see the engine bay in more detail.

Suspension and Brakes

Fitted as standard with Adaptive BMW M suspension, the driver is offered the choice between Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes, with different damper settings in each of the three modes. Supreme agility, steering precision and handling stability are all big features in the BMW largely supported by the excellent suspension setup.

The wide set shape of the alloys shows off the gold anodised finish of the M carbon ceramic brakes, an optional extra at time of initial purchase which make a huge difference to the stopping power of the M4 CS, a vital factor given the pace of this car.

The Drive

The M4 CS is a really engaging car to drive. With a torque-rich engine, its not shy of power or aggression and is an easy car to drive fast.

Excellent handling, a seriously punchy turbo charged 3.0L engine and enough power to give a lot of fun through the corners, this is a car that demands attention for all the right reasons.

Electrics and Other

The M4 CS provides some excellent in car entertainment; Harman Kardon audio system, Bluetooth, rearview camera, keyless entry and start and BMW's iDrive interface with an 8.8-inch colour touch screen with navigation.

Other features include heated mirrors, heated seats and parking sensors.

All features are reported to be working without issue or fault.

History and Paperwork

With just over ~3,500 miles being covered over the past three years - low usage brings this BMW to market, boasting rarity, excellent condition and a full BMW warranty.

The M4 CS is a real rarity on the roads with only a very small amount of these being produced, exclusivity is a big part of owning this car. Not only this, but the increase in power vs a base entry M4 is something not be dismissed. Ultimately designed with weight saving in mind, the generous addition of premium Alcantara, carbon fibre elements throughout and clever uses of material sets this car apart from the pack and onto the track.

Also, the car benefits from a BMW servicing plan that can be transferred to the new owner - this will cover the service that will be required in 2024 - please see the paperwork for more information.

The BMW Frozen Dark Blue II finish is an individual paint coat giving an extra level of uniqueness to the car. To keep the paint in check, a layer of protection film has been applied to the car for added peace of mind. Another great touch on the car is the optional extra addition of the gold anodised Carbon Ceramic Brakes for increased stopping power.

An engine oil servicing and running in check was carried out with BMW in March 2019 and a service, engine oil, microfilter change and brake fluid service was again carried in March 2020 at cost of over £400.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on seeing the car in person and from information gained from the seller, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa.
