Introduction

This stunning, low mileage, Carnival Red Metallic XK8 has a cream leather interior and a black mohair hood - it is in investment collector grade condition being beautiful throughout with absolutely no rust, and a documented history file.

I bought the car into the trade as rarely do such exceptional examples come up.

Exterior

Stunning in Carnival red which is a pearl / metallic finish.

Wheels and Tyres

The optional upgrade 18" Flute alloys are in superb condition throughout.

The tyres are a matched set of Pirelli PZero, the fronts are as new and the rears are good.

Bodywork

The bodywork is superb - these cars have a propensity to rust, but with such low mileage and collector treatment, this car is amazing underneath with the sill flanges even still carrying their original colour and spotwelding, and the floors are totally original.

Paint

The paint is superb with great gloss level. There are just the smallest age related stone chips here and there, and overall the body is dead straight, no parking dings or dents to be seen.

Glass and Trim

All the glass is unmarked.

The exterior trim is all clean and tidy without damage.

Interior

Being an early car, the interior is in Cream as opposed to Ivory used on later cars - the colour combination with the red exterior is simply exquisite, plus added to that the whole cabin is un stunning condition.

Seats and Carpets

The seats are beautiful with just the slightest use creasing - and zero sagging or bagging, the seat support is absolutely like new.

The carpets are perfect and even the original upgrade overmats are in excellent condition.

Door cards and other trims are beautiful.

Dashboard

The car has a particularly attractive walnut woodset which is showing some minor patination at the edges here and there.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather and walnut steering wheel is immaculate as befits the mileage, the same for the centre console and shifter.

Mechanics

At 39,000 miles and a massive service history, the car runs and drives like it was two years old.

Engine and Gearbox

The worries about early 4.0 engines are not a problem here - the timing chains and tensioners have been upgraded, the invoice is on file.

Any worries about Nikasil cylinder liner wear are headed off by the fact that the causal petrol additive was effectively removed in early 2000 when the car had covered less than 10,000 miles, today it breathes normally.

The gearbox shift exactly like it did when it was new.

The engine has just been serviced.

Suspension and Brakes

The cars driveline is all original, the braking system has just had a fully reconditioned ABS module fitted along with a full brake fluid flush.

The whole suspension system is a credit to the original design - the ride and handling is wonderful for an open car.

The Drive

As above - the ride and handling is superb, the quality of the original build is evident with a complete lack of rattling components or noise.

Electrics and Other

All electrical systems and the air conditioning work properly.

History and Paperwork

With a low 39,000 miles from new, it has only 2 previous keepers, the last ownership change being recently as a result of bereavement - fortunately all of the documentation has flowed through and the car comes with a large history file.

The car has a huge history and service file, see below for details.

The original owner manual pouch is complete and importantly is fully stamped up from new - there are 13 main dealer service stamps and 4 specialist - an impressive total of 17 services in less than 40,000 miles.

Heritage Classics have just serviced the car (fluids and brake fluid) to included replacement ABS module and radio, both warranted for 12 months. The majority of the service invoices detailing the work are on file alongside other invoices and a wad of old MOTs. The car has 2 keys and remotes.

One nice feature is the original sales invoice - HR Owen sold the car to Professor Rowbotham in 1997 for £63,445 - a huge price nearly 30 years ago. The invoice details various optional upgrades including :- 18"
